Artifacts (Beirut Album)
''Artifacts'' is a compilation album by American indie rock band Beirut. It was released digitally on January 28, 2022, through Pompeii Records, and was released on vinyl and CD on April 1, 2022. The double album includes unreleased tracks, B-sides, some of Zach Condon's earliest recordings at age 14, and a re-release of the band's 2007 ''Lon Gisland ''Lon Gisland'' is an EP by Beirut, released on CD by Ba Da Bing! Records in January 2007 and on single-sided 12" LP by Chouette Records. It is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed '' Gulag Orkestar'' and the first album performed by the full ...'' EP. It was announced on October 20, 2021, with the release of the previously unreleased track "Fisher Island Sound". The second single, "So Slowly", was released on November 17, 2021, followed by the single "Fyodor Dormant" on January 6, 2022. Beirut (band)
Beirut is an American band that was originally the solo musical project of Zach Condon. Beirut's music combines elements of indie rock and world music. The band's first performance with the full brass section was in New York, in May 2006, in support of their debut album ''Gulag Orkestar'', but performed their first show with Condon, Petree, and Collins at the College of Santa Fe earlier that year. Condon named the band after Lebanon's capital, because of the city's history of conflict and as a place where cultures collide. Beirut performed in Lebanon for the first time in 2014, at the Byblos International Festival. History Early years Zach Condon was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 13, 1986. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Gallipoli (album)
''Gallipoli'' is the fifth studio album by indie folk band Beirut. It was released on February 1, 2019 by 4AD. The album is named after the Italian town where the title track was written. It is supported by the singles "Gallipoli", "Corfu" and "Landslide". The band toured across North America and Europe in support of the album in 2019. Background Work on the album began in late 2016, with Zach Condon holding recording sessions in various cities, including New York City, Apulia, Italy, and Berlin (where Condon lives). The album is produced by Condon and Gabe Wax, who also produced the band's previous album, 2015's '' No No No''. ''Loud and Quiet'' is a British bi-monthly music magazine that focuses on new music from underground indie, alternative, electronic and hip hop artists. History and profile The magazine was founded in January 2005 by Stuart Stubbs as a home-printed fanzine in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It relocated to London in 2006. Issue 01 of ''Loud And Quiet'' featured Pete Doherty on its cover. ''Lon Gisland'' is an EP by Beirut, released on CD by Ba Da Bing! Records in January 2007 and on single-sided 12" LP by Chouette Records. It is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed ''Gulag Orkestar'' and the first album performed by the full band, which came together after ''Gulag Orkestar''s release. ''Lon Gisland'' includes a reworked version of "Scenic World", from Beirut's previous album. The EP’s title does not refer to a person named Lon Gisland, but is instead a play on the place-name “Long Island.” Reception Pitchfork Media's Brandon Stosuy gave ''Lon Gisland'' a positive review, calling Condon's decision to play with a full band a "smart move". Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. "O Leãozinho" () is a song composed by Brazilian singer/songwriter Caetano Veloso. The song title means "little lion" in Portuguese.
