Sir Arthur Gore, 1st Baronet
Sir Arthur Gore, 1st Baronet (c. 1640 – 20 December 1697) was an Irish soldier and politician. Gore was the second son of Sir Paul Gore, 1st Baronet and his wife Isabella Wycliffe, daughter of Francis Wycliffe. In 1656, he was High Sheriff of Mayo and additionally High Sheriff of County Galway. He was appointed constable of Fort Falkland for life in August 1660 and in December of that year he became major of a company of foot. He entered the Irish House of Commons in 1661 and represented Mayo until 1666. On 10 April 1662, he was created a Baronet, of Newtown, in the County of Mayo. He served as Sheriff for Mayo again in 1670 and was nominated High Sheriff of Leitrim in 1677. Family Gore married Eleanor St George, daughter of Sir George St George (knight of Carrickdrumrusk). Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Baronet
Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Baronet (c. 1685 – 10 February 1742) was an Irish politician and baronet. He was the son of Paul Gore, himself son of Sir Arthur Gore, 1st Baronet, and his wife Anne Gore, daughter of Sir John Gore. Gore succeeded his grandfather as baronet in 1697. He was Member of Parliament (MP) in the Irish House of Commons. Gore represented Ballynakill from 1703 to 1713 and then for Donegal Borough until 1715. Subsequently, he sat for County Mayo until 1741. Gore was married to Elizabeth Annesley, daughter of Maurice Annesley. They had eight children, four daughters and four sons. Gore was succeeded in the baronetcy by his eldest son Arthur, who later was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as 1st Earl of Arran. Arthur Gore, 1st Earl of Arran PC (Ire) (1703 – 17 April 1773), known as Sir Arthur Gore, 3rd Baronet from 1741 to 1757 and as Viscount Sudley from 1758 to 1762, was an Irish politician. Arran was the son of Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Baronet, and Elizabeth Annesley, and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1727 he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Donegal Borough, a seat he held until 1758. He was also High Sheriff of Wexford in 1738 and was admitted to the Irish Privy Council in 1748. In 1758 he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Saunders, of Deeps in the County of Wexford, and Viscount Sudley, of Castle Gore in the County of Mayo. In 1762 he was further honoured when he was created Earl of Arran, of the Arran Islands in the County of Galway. Arthur Saunders Gore, 3rd Earl of Arran (20 July 1761 – 20 January 1837), styled Viscount Sudley from 1773 to 1809, was an Irish peer and Tory Member of Parliament. Life Arran was the eldest son of Arthur Saunders Gore, 2nd Earl of Arran, by his first wife the Hon. Catherine Annesley. In 1783, he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Baltimore and Donegal Borough. He chose to sit for the first and represented the constituency until 1790. In 1800, he was returned for County Donegal until the Union with Great Britain took place at the end of the year. Subsequently, he sat then for County Donegal in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom to 1806. In 1809 he succeeded his father as third Earl of Arran, but as this was an Irish peerage it did not entitle him to a seat in the House of Lords of the United Kingdom. Arthur Saunders Gore, 5th Earl of Arran (6 January 1839 – 14 March 1901), known as Viscount Sudley from 1839 to 1884, was an Anglo-Irish peer and diplomat. Early life Arran was the eldest son of Philip Yorke Gore, 4th Earl of Arran, and Elizabeth Marianne Napier, daughter of General Sir William Francis Patrick Napier, KCB. Arthur Hector Gore (1866 – 29 September 1944) was a New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1886 to 1902. Family Arthur Gore was one of eight children – four sons and four daughters – of Richard Benjamin Gore, who was curator of the Colonial Museum in Wellington, Government Meteorological Observer and Statistician, and Secretary to the Geological Survey Department, the New Zealand Institute and the Wellington Philosophical Society. Arthur's younger brothers Charles and Ross were, like him, first-class cricketers. Ross and Arthur's other brother Henry were also, like Arthur, prominent tennis players in New Zealand.
