Artane Industrial School
St. Josephs Industrial School, Artane was an Industrial School run by the Christian Brothers in Artane, Dublin from 1870 to 1969. History On 28 July 1870, the Artane Industrial School for Roman Catholic Boys, also known as St Joseph's, was officially certified to receive boys up to the age of 14 committed by magistrates for matters such as destitution, neglect, truancy and minor offences. The school was opened at the former site of Artane Castle on fifty six acres of land. Dormitories accommodated up to 150 boys. The dining area or refectory accommodated all 825 boys at one sitting. The facility comprised the School, the trade shops and the farm, in addition to the Community house. Artane reached its peak enrollment of 830 in 1948, when numbers began to decline. Courts sent boys to Artane for reasons of inadequate parental care, destitution, neglect, truancy or the commission of minor offences. Artane Band
The Artane Band () is a marching band for young musicians based at the Artane School of Music in Artane in Dublin, Ireland. Name The band was originally called the Artane Boys Band, with members drawn from the pupils at Artane Industrial School, an industrial school which closed in 1969. Its name changed to "Artane Band" in 2004 when girls were first admitted. History Foundation and ethos The band was formed in 1872 and first performed in public in 1874 for the visiting Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. The band performed outside Ireland for the first time at the London Exhibition of 1884. The band also played for Queen Victoria during her visit to the industrial school in 1900 and performed for King George V in 1911 during his visit to Maynooth College even playing "God save the King". Dublin Artane was a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas from 1977 to 1981. The constituency elected 3 deputies ( Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs) to the Dáil, using proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). History The constituency was created under the terms of the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1974, largely replacing the former Dublin North-East constituency, as part of the redistribution of constituencies which attempted to secure the re-election of the outgoing Fine Gael– Labour Party government. Trihexyphenidyl (THP, benzhexol, trihex, marketed as Artane and others) is an antispasmodic drug used to treat stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control. It is an agent of the antimuscarinic class and is often used in management of Parkinson's disease. It was approved by the FDA for the treatment of Parkinson's in the US in 2003. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. Medical uses Trihexyphenidyl is used for the symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease in mono and combination therapy. It is active in postencephalitic, arteriosclerotic, and idiopathic forms. The drug is also commonly used to treat extrapyramidal side effects occurring during antipsychotic treatment. Novo Brdo ( sr-Cyrl, Ново Брдо), or Novobërda and Artana ( sq-definite, Novobërdë or ''Artanë''), is a municipality located in the Pristina district of Kosovo. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 6,729 inhabitants. The center of the municipality is the village of Bostane. After the 2013 Brussels Agreement, the municipality became part of the Community of Serb Municipalities. Name In Serbian (and also English) "Novo Brdo" is used, literally meaning "New Hill".
