Founded in 1986, Ars Nova Singers is composed of about 40 singers who were selected through auditions from the Boulder / Denver metropolitan area. Colorado Music Festival
The Colorado Music Festival is a classical music festival in Boulder, Colorado. It was founded in 1976 by the Vienna-born conductor and violinist, Giora Bernstein and presents an annual summer season of concerts in Boulder's Chautauqua Auditorium performed by the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra as well as visiting artists and ensembles. The festival runs from late June to early August with a focus on orchestral and chamber music. Orchestra members representing many of North America's best professional orchestras come to Colorado to participate. Its current music director is Peter Oundjian. History The festival began life as the Colorado Chamber Orchestra founded in 1976 by Giora Bernstein, the newly appointed head of the conducting program at University of Colorado. Steven Edward Stucky (November 7, 1949 − February 14, 2016) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer. Life and career Stucky was born in Hutchinson, Kansas. At age 9, he moved with his family to Abilene, Texas, where, as a teenager, he studied music in the public schools and, privately, viola with Herbert Preston, conducting with Leo Scheer, and composition with Macon Sumerlin. He attended Baylor University and Cornell. Stucky worked with Karel Husa and Daniel Sternberg. Stucky wrote commissioned works for many of the major American orchestras, including Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and St. Paul. Life Born in San Juan, Argentina, on January 22, 1936, Luis Jorge González (also known as Luis Jorge González Fernández) was a composer and composition teacher. He earned a "Licenciado en Piano, Armonía y Dirección Coral" degree at the Escuela de Música at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, in Mendoza, in 1963. He studied composition privately with Austrian musicologist Erwin Leuchter in Buenos Aires between 1957 and 1959, and again later, between 1963 and 1964.
