Ars Nova (rock)
Ars Nova is a Japanese progressive rock band. The band members are Keiko Kumagai (keyboards), Shinko "Panky" Shibata (bass guitar), Hazime (drums) and Satoshi Handa (guitar). Ars Nova's music features a heavy use of keyboards — this was particularly true between 1998 and 2003 when the band had two keyboard players. Common sounds include the ubiquitous Hammond organ, as well as more recent digital sounds. Almost all of their music is instrumental. The band's musical influences are ELP, Goblin, PFM, Rick Wakeman, Balletto di Bronzo and classical music. Kumagai, the keyboard player, writes all of the band's compositions. She has played on the Ayreon album '' Universal Migrator Part 2: Flight of the Migrator'' (2000). For much of its history (until Hazime and more recently Handa joined), the band was all-female, unusual in the world of progressive rock. Flight Of The Migrator
''Universal Migrator Part 2: Flight of the Migrator'' is the fifth album from Ayreon, a progressive metal/ rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen, released in 2000. The musical styles found on ''Flight of the Migrator'' contrast its counterpart '' The Dream Sequencer'', illustrating a wild, raucous journey through the tumultuous and chaotic reaches of outer space. In keeping with the setting of the story, the album's tone is much heavier, exuding a powerful, guitar-driven metal feel throughout. Both albums were released simultaneously, sold well and were received positively. In 2004, Lucassen moved to a new record label - Inside Out Music - and with this move came re-issues of all the previous Ayreon releases, including ''The Dream Sequencer''. Gerard is a Japanese progressive rock band. The current members are : * Toshio Egawa : keyboards * Kenichi Fujimoto (Ken☆Ken) : drums * Atsushi Hasegawa : bass Biography Gerard is led by the keyboardist Toshio Egawa. After being a member of Rumble in 1976, Fromage in 1976, Scheherazade from 1976, which became Novela in 1979 after a line-up change, he founded Gerard in 1983 with Yukihiro Fujimura (vocals and guitar), Masaki Tanimoto (drums), and Yasumasa Uotani (bass). The band made several gigs before recording their first album in spring 1984. The band released a second album in 1985. In 1986, their label King Records stopped supporting progressive music, and the band dissolved. Toshio Egawa joined the hard rock band Earthshaker. Trace (band)
Trace was a Dutch progressive rock trio founded by Rick van der Linden in 1974 after leaving Ekseption. The band was formed in 1971 and released its debut album, "Trace," in 1974. The band's music was characterized by complex arrangements and intricate instrumental work, and their compositions often featured a mix of rock, jazz, and classical influences. Trace released a total of three albums during their career. Trace was fairly popular in Europe, and they gained a loyal following among fans of progressive rock. Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" (or "metal operas") because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist. Progressive Rock
