''Arrows and Anchors'' is the fourth and final studio album by the Texas progressive rock band Fair to Midland, released on July 11, 2011, by E1 Music in North America. In Europe, the record was released by Season of Mist the day before. The album was produced, recorded and mixed by Joe Barresi. The record peaked at No. 65 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Release and promotion On April 4, the band debuted the album's first single, "Musical Chairs", on the website ArtistDirect.com. It became available on iTunes on April 18. On May 19, the band released the track "Amarillo Sleeps on My Pillow" for free download on their website. Reception The album debuted at no. 65 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' 200 chart, selling 7,000 copies and marking the band's highest spot on the chart. Fair To Midland
Fair to Midland was an American alternative metal band based in Texas. They produced two self-released albums before signing to Serjical Strike, Serj Tankian's vanity label at Universal Republic. There, they released their only major record label album, '' Fables from a Mayfly'', in 2007. While the album broke into the ''Billboard'' 200, they eventually parted ways with Serjical Strike and later released their fourth album '' Arrows and Anchors'' in July 2011. Tentative plans for a fifth album had been discussed at the end of the ''Arrow and Anchors'' touring cycle, but the band became inactive in 2013. Mastering, a form of audio post production, is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master), the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication). Marxophone
The Marxophone is a fretless zither played via a system of metal hammers. It features two octaves of double melody strings in the key of C major ( middle C to C''), and four sets of chord strings (C major, G major, F major, and D7). Sounding somewhat like a mandolin, the Marxophone's timbre is also reminiscent of various types of hammered dulcimers. The player typically strums the chords with the left hand. The right hand plays the melody strings by depressing spring steel strips that hold small lead hammers over the strings. A brief stab on a metal strip bounces the hammer off a string pair to produce a single note. Darroh Sudderth
Andrew Darroh Sudderth is the former lead singer for the alternative metal band Fair to Midland, from Sulphur Springs, Texas. Fair to Midland Beginnings In 1998 Andrew formed Fair to Midland along with friends Cliff Campbell, Jason Pintler, and Nathin Seals while on his senior year at Sulphur Springs High School. He joined as the bass guitar player, but eventually took over lead vocals when Nathin Seals joined the band. Sudderth is known for an enthusiastic stage presence, including wild dancing and leaping, and occasionally even climbing various parts of the stage, as well as his large vocal range, spanning the gap from guttural growls to crooning falsetto, and use of throat singing as demonstrated in "Dance of the Manatee" and "Rikki Tikki Tavi".
