Arnold Rogers
Arnold Rogers (born 4 September 1990) is a Gibraltarian long-distance runner and the current national record holder for the marathon. Currently serving as a soldier in the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, a regiment of the British Army, he is supported by the Army Elite Sports Program as a tier 3 athlete. The program is aimed at identification and development of the Army's most talented athletes and enables athletes to train alongside their regular jobs. He currently competes wearing the jersey of his unit athletics team. In 2018, he competed in the men's half marathon at the 2018 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships held in Valencia, Spain. He finished in 138th place. In 2018, he also competed in the men's marathon at the 2018 European Athletics Championships held in Berlin, Germany. He finished in 57th place with a time of 2:32:41. The men's marathon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, as part of the athletics programme, was held in Victoria Square, Birmingham on 30 July 2022. Field Athletics Weekly named the favourite as the Tanzanian Alphonce Simbu, who finished third at the 2017 World Athletics Championships and had a season best of 2:06:20. Kenya's Jonathan Korir held the fastest personal best in the field; 2:04:32 achieved in Amsterdam in 2021 but his best time for 2022 was 2:08:04 at the Tokyo Marathon on 6 March. Ugandan Victor Kiplangat ran 2:05:09 in Hamburg which gave him the fastest season best in the field. 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017. European Cross Country Championships
The European Cross Country Championships is an annual international cross country running competition. Organised by the European Athletic Association, it is the area championships for the region and is held in December each year. The championships was inaugurated in 1994 in Alnwick and the venue for the championships changes each year. Unlike the World Championships for the sport, the European Cross Country Championships consists of six races in age categories, with separate senior, under-23, and junior races for both men and women.
