Arnold's Bar And Grill
Arnold's Bar and Grill is the oldest continuously operating bar in Cincinnati, Ohio, and one of the oldest in the United States. History Arnold's is the oldest continuously operating bar in the city and one of the oldest in the country. The establishment was first opened in 1838 by Susan Fawcett as "a whorehouse," according to Cincinnati historian Mike Morgan. In 1861, new owner Simon Arnold operated it as a bar and lived upstairs. Around the year 1900, Simon Arnold's son Hugo took it over; he and his wife and six children also lived upstairs. Hugo Arnold added the building next door, which according to Cincinnati food historian Polly Campbell "allowed for a separate entrance and room for women." In the 1920s, Hugo Arnold's son Elmer Arnold took it over and, because of prohibition, started serving food. According to Campbell, Elmer Arnold was also "likely selling homemade gin". James (Jim) Tarbell is an American politician of the Charter Party, who was a member of the city council and vice-mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. By mayoral proclamation, Jim Tarbell holds the title "Mr. Cincinnati" for life. Early life and education Tarbell's family moved from a small Ohio town to the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati in 1946. Frank Shepard Fairey (born February 15, 1970) is an American contemporary artist, activist and founder of OBEY Clothing who emerged from the skateboarding scene. Vhils (born 1987) is the tag name of Portuguese graffiti and street artist Alexandre Manuel Dias Farto. Life Alexandre Farto was born in Portugal in 1987. He studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. Vhils lives and works in London and Lisbon. He gained prominence when his work of a face carved into a wall appeared alongside a picture by street artist Banksy at the Cans Festival in London in 2008.
