Armourdale, Kansas
Armourdale community is a district in the lower part of the Kansas River valley in Kansas City, Kansas. It is a main district between the West Bottoms and the Rosedale, Kansas area. The Kansas River makes an oxbow curve around the entire district, which is home to Shawnee Park and Bill Clem Park. History Armourdale was platted in 1880, and incorporated as a city in 1882. Its name came from the Armour meatpacking plant in the area. In March 1886, "new" Kansas City, Kansas was formed through the consolidation of five municipalities: "old" Kansas City, Armstrong, Armourdale, Riverview, Wyandotte. The district was devastated by the 1903 Kansas City flood, and again in the flood of 1951, with damage adding up to about 50 million dollars that year. The 1993 flood, however, did no damage as the new floodwalls held up, and protected Armourdale from waters. The 18th Street Expressway Bridge is a one level deck truss, four lane crossing of the Kansas River in Kansas City, Kansas. It was built in 1959, to replace the Argentine Bridge The Argentine Bridge was a one lane, thru-truss bridge over the Kansas River in Kansas City, Kansas. It was built in 1908, and removed in 1959, after the 18th Street Expressway Bridge was built to the east of it. It was damaged in the flood of 19 ... to the west. 18th Street Expressway
The 18th Street Expressway (often shortened to 18th Street in everyday speech) is a freeway in Kansas City, Kansas that runs from Interstate 35 north to Interstate 70/U.S. Route 24/ U.S. Route 40. It carries the U.S. Route 69 designation its entire length. Route description Exit 232B from Interstate 35 is a diamond interchange with traffic lights north of the Johnson County line, just inside Kansas City. This diamond interchange serves as the northern terminus of Roe Boulevard from Roeland Park, as well as the southern terminus of the 18th Street Expressway. US-69 northbound leaves I-35 northbound at this interchange, turning north to travel along the expressway. Kansas River
The Kansas River, also known as the Kaw, is a river in northeastern Kansas in the United States. 7th Street Trafficway Bridge
The 7th Street Trafficway Bridge is a one level deck truss bridge over the Kansas River and BNSF Railway tracks on 7th Street. It was built in 1932. It connects the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas, to the east end of the Argentine district of Kansas City, Kansas. In 1970, the bridge was resurfaced, repainted, and a new sister bridge was built. The new sister bridge is a two lane girder bridge that would now carry southbound lanes, making the deck truss bridge into a northbound bridge only. It is also called the Herman G. Dillon Bridge, and it survived the 1951 flood.
