Armando Veneto
Armando Veneto (born 14 November 1935) is an Italian politician and lawyer. Early life Armando Veneto was born in Aversa on 14 November 1935. He has been president of the Criminal Chamber of Palmi and mayor of this city from 1994 to 2001. In 1996 he was elected deputy for the centre-left coalition ( The Olive Tree) in the uninominal constituency of Palmi. He served also as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance from 1999 to 2001 In 2001 he joined the centrist project of European Democracy, but in 2001 he was not re-elected. In 2004 he joined the UDEUR and was a candidate in the European elections for the Southern constituency, obtaining around 17,000 preferences. The Union of the Centre ( it, Unione di Centro, UdC), whose complete name is "Union of Christian and Centre Democrats" (''Unione dei Democratici Cristiani e Democratici di Centro'', UDC), is a Christian-democratic political party in Italy. Paolo Cirino Pomicino (born 3 September 1939) is an Italian politician, who was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the 2006 Italian general election representing the Christian Democracy for the Autonomies. Biography Pomicino was born in Naples. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery and entered Christian Democracy for which he became first a member of Naples' city council, and then member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1976, a position he held until 1994. A member of Giulio Andreotti's current, he was under minister of the Public Functions (1988-1989) and Minister of the Budget (1989-1992). He was nicknamed ''o' ministro'' ("The minister" in Neapolitan dialect). During his membership of DC, he has been convicted for illegal financing (sentenced to 1 year and 8 months) and he negotiated (thereby admitting guilt) 2 months for corruption and hidden funds. 2004 European Parliament Election In Italy
The 2004 European Parliament election in Italy was held on 12 and 13 June 2004. Italy's highly fragmented party system made it hard to identify an overall trend, but the results were generally seen as a defeat for Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and a victory for the centre-left opposition coalition identified with Romano Prodi, who was President of the European Commission until 2004, and was widely expected to re-enter Italian politics at the next election. The common list of The Olive Tree, comprising mainly the Democrats of the Left and The Daisy became the largest list, with an important psychological effect.
