Arlene's Grocery
Arlene's Grocery is a bar and music venue located in the Lower East Side district of Manhattan. It is located at 95 Stanton Street between Orchard St and Ludlow St. The venue was opened by Shane Doyle and two partners in 1995. Shane Doyle was also owner and founder of Sin-é. While Shane was bought out early on, the two remaining partners run the club. History The former Puerto Rican convenience store, bodega/grocery store (the facade of which remains) and neighboring butcher shop were turned into a bar in 1995. It hosts a variety of musical acts, although punk rock, punk and hard rock bands tend to be most common. Local acts usually play at the venue, while their slightly "hipster (contemporary subculture), hipster" clientele often stay within the confines of the separate bar area. Stanton Street
Stanton Street is a west-to-east street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, in the neighborhood of the Lower East Side. The street begins at the Bowery in the west and runs east to a dead end past Pitt Street, adjacent to Hamilton Fish Park. A shorter section of Stanton Street also exists east of Columbia Street; it was isolated from the remainder of the street in 1959 with the construction of the Gompers Houses and the Masaryk Towers. Stanton Street largely carries a bike lane, a through lane, and a parking lane. It runs one block north of Rivington Street and one block south of Houston Street. The street is named after George Stanton, an associate of landowner James De Lancey. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements.
