Arkavazi (tribe)
Arkavazi or Arkwazi is a Kurdish tribe from western Iran and northeastern Iraq. History The Arkavazis are located mainly in the areas of Ilam, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Kermanshah, Khanaqin, Mandali, and its center is Chavar. The cities of Chavar and Arkavaz are almost entirely populated by Arkavazis. Arkavazis primarily speak Southern Kurdish (Sorani) and follow Shia Islam. Shia Islam
Shīʿa Islam or Shīʿīsm is the second-largest branch of Islam. It holds that the Islamic prophet Muhammad designated ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib as his successor (''khalīfa'') and the Imam (spiritual and political leader) after him, most notably at the event of Ghadir Khumm, but was prevented from succeeding Muhammad as the leader of the Muslims as a result of the choice made by some of Muhammad's other companions (''ṣaḥāba'') at Saqifah. This view primarily contrasts with that of Sunnī Islam, whose adherents believe that Muhammad did not appoint a successor before his death and consider Abū Bakr, who was appointed caliph by a group of senior Muslims at Saqifah, to be the first rightful (''rāshidūn'') caliph after Muhammad. Diyala Governorate
Diyala Governorate ( ar, محافظة ديالى ) or Diyala Province is a governorate in central-eastern Iraq. Kalhor (tribe)
Kalhor () is a Kurdish tribe and their dialect, "Kalhori", has been categorized as a branch of Southern Kurdish. History The tribe is described as the most powerful tribe in the province of Kermanshah and the surrounding region, and also described as "one of the most ancient, if not the most ancient, of the tribes of Kurdistan". The Kalhoris were mentioned by Sharaf-al-Din Bedlisi in the late 16th century, according to whom, the chiefs of the Kalhor claimed to be descended from Giv, the son of Goudarz (q.v.), a major hero in the Shahnameh. Areas Kalhor tribe populate cities and towns such as Sarpol-e Zahab, Gilan-e Gharb, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Eyvan and Zarneh in Iran. In Iraq, they mainly populate Khanaqin. Feyli (tribe)
Feylis ( ku, فهیلی ,Feylî, also known as Feyli Kurds), is a Kurdish tribe mainly living in the borderlands between Iraq and Iran, and in Baghdad. They speak Feyli (also known as "Ilami" or "Southern Kurdish Feyli") which is classified as a sub-dialect of Southern Kurdish, but is commonly mistaken as being identical with the separate Feyli dialect of Northern Luri. Linguist Ismaïl Kamandâr Fattah argues that the Kurdish Feyli dialect and other Southern Kurdish sub-dialects are 'interrelated and largely mutually intelligible.' Feylis are recognized as ethnic Kurds in the Iraqi constitution. In January 2019, Feyli Kurds received a reserved minority seat in Wasit Governorate, which was won by Mazen Abdel Moneim Gomaa with 5,078 votes in the 2018 Iraqi parliamentary election. Khulam Rada Khan Arkawazi
Quolam Reza Khan Arkawazi (born c. 1765 in Ilam – died c. 1834) was a Kurdish poet and ascetic and a prominent literary figure from Pish-e Kuh region near Khorramabad in Iran. He wrote in both Feyli and Gorani. Biography Little is known about the life of Arkawazi and the chronology of his literary works. He was born in the village of Serçete near Ilam to a Shia Kurdish family who belonged to the Arkavazi tribe. His family were wealthy and he grew up in the village. His father Hasan Bag was a well-known figure and held the title of Khan. Arkawazi grew up speaking Feyli but also knew Gorani since it was the literary and administrative language of the Pish-e Kuh region. He moved to Najaf for his studies and documents indicate that he was well-versed in contemporary theological and mystical disciplines. Southern Kurdish ( ku, کوردی باشووری ,کوردی خوارگ, Kurdî Başûrî, Kurdî Xwarig) is one of the dialects of the Kurdish language, spoken predominantly in northeastern Iraq and western Iran. The Southern Kurdish-speaking region spans from Khanaqin in Iraq to Dehloran southward and Asadabad eastward in Iran. Name Southern Kurdish is a new term coined by some Western linguists in order to refer to a group of dialects in Western Iran. According to the same linguists, the speakers of these dialects are not familiar with the term "Southern Kurdish" and do not refer to the language as such.
