Highway 178 (AR 178, Ark. 178, and Hwy. 178) is a designation for two east–west state highways in the Ozark Mountains. One segment begins near Flippin and runs east across Bull Shoals Dam to downtown Mountain Home. A second segment begins in eastern Mountain Home and runs east to Lake Norfork. Both highways are maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Route description Flippin to Mountain Home Highway 178 begins at US 62/US 412 south of Flippin in the Ozark Mountains. It runs north into Flippin, becoming a two-lane road with a center turn lane, passing Hickey City Park, and bridging Fallen Ash Creek. It runs along the western edge of downtown Flippin before bridging the Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad tracks. Flippin, Arkansas
Flippin is a city in Marion County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,345 at the 2020 census. The city was named for the Thomas H. Flippin family and was incorporated in 1921. The Thomas H. Flippin Chapter of the Arkansas State Society, National Society United States Daughters of 1812, was named for the military service of SGT Thomas H. Flippin of Captain Hugh Brown’s Company, 1st Regiment, Kentucky Mounted Militia during the War of 1812. Geography Flippin is located in eastern Marion County north of US 412/ 62, in the Ozarks south of Bull Shoals Lake. The town lies west of the White River. Mountain Home Commercial Historic District
The Mountain Home Commercial Historic District encompasses the historic central business district of Mountain Home, Arkansas, the county seat of Baxter County. The district is centered on the Baxter County Courthouse, and is bounded on the north by East 5th Street, the south by East 9th Street, the east by South Street, and the west by South Hickory Street. Most of the buildings in this area are commercial structures, one or two stories in height, of masonry construction. They are generally vernacular in style, and most were built in one of two periods: between about 1900 and 1920, after the arrival of the railroad, and in the 1950s, when the city experienced another major period of growth. The oldest building is the 1892 Baker Building at 601-603 Baker Street. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. Baxter County Airport , is a county-owned public-use airport located four nautical miles (5 mi, 7 km) northwest of the central business district of Mountain Home, a city in Baxter County, Arkansas, United States. It was known as Baxter County Airport until 2005. It changed its name back to Baxter County Airport due to confusion with the close proximity of Ozark, Arkansas and Ozark, Missouri, both of which have airports. The airport used to be served by Lone Star Airlines, which operated services to Dallas-Fort Worth International in the mid-1990s. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Bull Shoals-White River State Park
Bull Shoals-White River State Park is a Arkansas state park in Baxter and Marion Counties, Arkansas in the United States. Containing one of the nation's best trout-fishing streams, the park entered the system in 1955 after the United States Army Corps of Engineers built Bull Shoals Dam on the White River. The park runs along the shoreline of Bull Shoals Lake and the White River above and below the dam, and contains picnic areas, a marina, boat rentals, interpretive programs, and a visitors' center with gift shop. History Initially a flood control and power generation measure, construction on Bull Shoals Dam began in 1947 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Upon completion in 1951, the Corps rented the shoreline to Arkansas, who used the site as a primitive camping spot with no amenities.
