Highway 120 (AR 120, Ark. 120, and Hwy. 120) is an east–west state highway in Mississippi County, Arkansas. The route begins at US Highway 61 (US 61) and the Great River Road at Tuckertown and runs east to CR 903 at O'Donnell Bend at a levee along the Mississippi River. The route is maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Route description Highway 120 begins at US 61 in eastern Mississippi County within the Arkansas Delta. The route runs east before turning north to Double Bridges, when it turns east and runs as a section line road. Highway 120 crosses Bear Bayou before terminating at County Road 903, which runs along a levee for the Canadian Reach of the Mississippi River. Mississippi County is the easternmost County (United States), county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 40,685. There are two county seats, Blytheville, Arkansas, Blytheville and Osceola, Arkansas, Osceola. The county was formed on November 1, 1833, and named for the Mississippi River which borders the county to the east. The following is a list of state highways in Arkansas. The state does not use a numbering convention. Generally the two-digit odd numbered highways run north–south with a few exceptions; and even-numbered two-digit state highways run east–west with a few exceptions. Arkansas has long had a stigma of poor roads, dating from the "Arkansas Roads Scandal" playing a prominent role in state politics through the 1920s and 1930s, periodic allegations of corruption, waste, and fraud, and a long-running struggle to adequately fund the operation, maintenance and expansion of a large highway system serving a rural state. The state has received the designation of "worst roads in America" from several publications throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, with Interstate 30 and Interstate 40 often ranking particularly poorly among truckers. The Great River Road is a collection of state and local roads that follow the course of the Mississippi River through ten states of the United States. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. Arkansas Delta
The Arkansas Delta is one of the six natural regions of the state of Arkansas. Willard B. Gatewood Jr., author of ''The Arkansas Delta: Land of Paradox'', says that rich cotton lands of the Arkansas Delta make that area "The Deepest of the Deep South." The region runs along the Mississippi River from Eudora north to Blytheville and as far west as Little Rock. It is part of the Mississippi embayment, itself part of the Mississippi River Alluvial Plain. The flat plain is bisected by Crowley's Ridge, a narrow band of rolling hills rising above the flat delta plains.
