Arizona Lutheran Academy
Arizona Lutheran Academy (ALA) is a high school located in Phoenix, Arizona. The school is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The high school was founded in 1978 and has been located in its present campus since 1986. ALA is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Accreditation and School Improvement. The school's mascot is the coyote and its colors black and gold ALA is a member of the 2A Conference of the Arizona Interscholastic Association. Sports Basketball ALA won the 1A boys' basketball championship in 1999 under coach Doug Meyer. ALA was also 2A runners-up in 1987 under coach Norman Tech and in 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013 under Meyer. ALA won the 2A girls' basketball championship in 1991 under coach Bob Gruetzmacher, who had taken the team to the title game the year before and lost. Coyotes
The coyote (''Canis latrans'') is a species of canis, canine native to North America. It is smaller than its close relative, the wolf, and slightly smaller than the closely related eastern wolf and red wolf. It fills much of the same ecological niche as the golden jackal does in Eurasia. The coyote is larger and more predatory and was once referred to as the American jackal by a behavioral ecologist. The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), also referred to simply as the Wisconsin Synod, is an American Confessional Lutheran denomination of Christianity. Characterized as theologically conservative, it was founded in 1850 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As of 2021, it had a baptized membership of 344,244 in 1,264 congregations, with churches in 47 US states and 4 provinces of Canada. The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) is one of two regulatory bodies for high school athletics and activities in the state of Arizona. It comprises all of the state's public district high schools (except Ajo High School, Beaver Dam High School and Gila Bend High School), various charter and private schools, plus a full member in Winterhaven, California and an associate member in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. Martin Luther College
Martin Luther College (MLC) is a private college in New Ulm, Minnesota, operated by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Martin Luther College was established in 1995, when Northwestern College (NWC) of Watertown, Wisconsin, combined with Dr. Martin Luther College (DMLC) of New Ulm on the latter's campus. MLC offers several undergraduate and graduate degree programs, all of which train students for service in the WELS. Laveen is a community in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, situated southwest of Downtown Phoenix, between South Mountain and the confluence of the Gila and Salt rivers. Parts of Laveen constitute an unincorporated community in Maricopa County, while the remainder falls within the city limits of Phoenix, constituting the city's "Laveen Village" an urban village within the city of Phoenix.
