Argentine Academy Of Cinematography Arts And Sciences (1941–55)
The Argentine Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences ( es, Academia de las Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de la Argentina - AACCA) is an industry association in Argentina founded in 2004. Each year the Academy present the ''Premios Sur'' (South Prizes) for categories such as best fiction film, best director, best actor and best photography. The Academy also selects Argentine films to represent the company in the annual awards of other countries, such as the Oscars, where appropriate. History The original Argentine Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences was founded on 22 November 1941. Over the years, and during the peak of Peronism, the academy became increasingly politicized. The last set of Academy Awards was presented for 1954, shortly before the 1955 coup that ousted the Peronists. The Academy was closed after the coup. Juan José Campanella
Juan José Campanella (born 19 July 1959) is an Argentine television and film director, writer and producer. He achieved worldwide attention with the release of ''The Secret in Their Eyes'' (2009), for which he was awarded the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Early life Campanella was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He started studying engineering, but dropped out in 1980 after four years at university. He would later remark that the decisive factor for this decision was watching '' All That Jazz'' on the very day he was going to apply for a fifth year. His debut as director was in 1979, with the short '' Prioridad nacional''. Campanella traveled to the United States and entered the Tisch School of the Arts.
