Area Code 320
Area code 320 is the telephone numbering plan code covering most of central Minnesota, excluding the Twin Cities metro. It was the fourth Minnesota area code, and the first new one in the state in 42 years. It was created in 1996 by carving out of the western part of area code 612, which originally stretched border-to-border from Wisconsin through the Twin Cities to South Dakota. It had been obvious for some time that 612 would need to be split due to the Twin Cities' rapid growth. However, the split was hastened by the proliferation of cell phones, pagers, fax machines and dial-up Internet access. The Twin Cities region retained 612, with St. Cloud, Alexandria, and Willmar switching to 320. More recently, the 612 area shrank to include only Minneapolis and a few inner suburbs. 320 now borders every Minnesota area code except 612. Area code 651 split from 612 in 1998. Browns Valley is a city in Traverse County, Minnesota, United States, adjacent to the South Dakota border. The population was 558 at the 2020 census. Browns Valley lies along the Little Minnesota River between the northern end of Big Stone Lake and the southern end of Lake Traverse, which is separated from the Little Minnesota River by a low and narrow continental divide that skirts the northern edge of town. Braham is a city in Isanti and Kanabec counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 1,769 at the 2020 census. Braham is 12 miles north of Cambridge, 15 miles southwest of Pine City, 16 miles south-southeast of Mora, and 12 miles west of Rush City. Benson is a city in Swift County, Minnesota, United States, along the Chippewa River. The population was 3,240 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat. History Benson was platted in 1870 when the railroad was extended to that point. As the end of the tracks, Benson became a lively trading center.
