Boris (band)
is a Japanese band formed in 1992 in Tokyo and composed of drummer Atsuo, guitarist/bassist Takeshi, and guitarist/keyboardist Wata. All three members contribute vocals. Boris has released more than twenty studio albums on various labels around the world, as well as a wide variety of live albums, compilations, EPs, singles, and collaborative albums. They have collaborated with acts such as Sunn O))), Merzbow, Keiji Haino, and guitarist Michio Kurihara. History Boris was originally a four-piece band with Atsuo on lead vocals, Wata on guitar, Takeshi on bass, and Nagata on drums. The band is named after a song of the same name on the Melvins album '' Bullhead''. Boris's debut album ''Absolutego'' was released in 1996 on their own record label Fangs Anal Satan. Sound Track From Film "Mabuta No Ura"
''Soundtrack from the Film Mabuta no Ura'' is the ninth studio album by Japanese experimental band Boris, released on June 29, 2005, through Catune and Inoxia and on November 12 of the same year through Essence Music. The album includes the song "A Bao A Qu" which shares the same name as the version included on the album ''The Thing Which Solomon Overlooked''. However, both versions are quite different from one another. The band used this version of the song "A Bao A Qu" and created a 7" single with an extended version of the track. A music video was also released for this song but it is based on the 7" single. There is yet another version of the song which was included on the 2010 compilation, ''Boris / Variations + Live in Japan'', and a live recording is included in '' Archive II''. The 2016 re-release of ''Pink'' includes a bonus disc with the track "Your Name Part 2," apparently a sequel to the track of that name from this album. Dronevil
''Dronevil'' is the eighth studio album by the Japanese experimental band Boris. It is a double album: the first LP, ''Drone'', showcases a more ambient sound, while the second LP, ''Evil'', showcases a heavy guitar-oriented doom metal sound. Though the two sides can be heard separately, the original intention is for both to be played simultaneously. The album was originally released on double vinyl with the artwork for this release done by Stephen O'Malley of Sunn O))). 1,000 copies were pressed of this album, 200 of which were printed on grey vinyl with the other 800 copies pressed on black vinyl. The album was re-released through Inoxia Records in 2006 under the name ''Dronevil -Final-'' on (double) CD format, remastered by Jason Lescalleet. This version includes two additional tracks not found on the original release. ''Pink'' is the tenth album by Japanese experimental music band Boris. It was originally released in 2005 through Diwphalanx Records in Japan and subsequently reissued in 2006 by American label Southern Lord Records. The album received favorable reviews, particularly for incorporating more melody into the band's abrasive sound. The album's length was extended significantly on the LP version of the album. For the 2006 reissue of ''Pink'', the album's cover art, track order, and length were modified from the original version released in Japan in 2005. Additionally, a music video was shot for the title track which was limited to 100 copies on DVD. Since then, the music video has been included in the limited edition of the album ''Smile'', also published by Southern Lord. Akuma No Uta
is the fifth album by Japanese experimental music band Boris. Originally released in 2003 on Diwphalanx Records with minimalist artwork, it was re-issued in 2005 on Southern Lord Records with a different cover and more music. Releases In addition to running an additional 7 minutes, the opening track of the Southern Lord version is a totally different take; both use the same riff from "Akuma no Uta," but the original, shorter track repeats it far less and opens with over a minute of ambient, resonant amp noise absent from the longer version. An edit of the long version opens 2010 compilation ''Boris / Variations + Live in Japan'', closely resembling the running length of the original intro, but sourced from a different point halfway through the 9 minute version and with a fade in. Drone Doom
Drone metal or drone doom is a style of heavy metal that melds the slow tempos and heaviness of doom metal with the long-duration tones of drone music. Drone metal is sometimes associated with post-metal or experimental metal. Characteristics Typically, the electric guitar is performed with a large amount of reverb or audio feedback while vocals may or may not be present. Songs often lack beat or rhythm in the traditional sense and are typically very long. ''Heavy Rocks '' is the fourth studio album by Japanese band Boris, released in 2002. It is the first of three Boris albums titled Heavy Rocks, with the others released in 2011 and 2022; all feature the band exploring hard rock and heavy metal sounds. Alternate takes of "1970" and "Wareruraido" were used for a single, while re-recordings of "Korosu" and "1970" with Michio Kurihara appear on ''Boris / Variations + Live in Japan.''
