Archery At The 2008 Summer Paralympics – Women's Individual Recurve
The women's individual recurve was one of the events held in archery at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing. There were two classes: a class for W1 & W2 wheelchair competitors and a class for standing archers. In the ranking round each archer shot 72 arrows; in the knockout stages each match was 12 arrows each. W1/W2 The W1/W2 class was won by Gizem Girismen, representing . Archery At The 2008 Summer Paralympics
Archery at the 2008 Summer Paralympics consists of nine events, five for men and four for women. The competitions were held at the Olympic Green Archery Field from September 9 to September 15, 2008. Classification Archers are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows archers to compete against others with a similar level of function. Roksolana Dzoba
Hurrem Sultan (, ota, خُرّم سلطان, translit=Ḫurrem Sulṭān, tr, Hürrem Sultan, label=Modern Turkish; 1500 – 15 April 1558), also known as Roxelana ( uk, Роксолана}; ), was the chief consort and legal wife of the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. She became one of the most powerful and influential women in Ottoman history as well as a prominent and controversial figure during the era known as the Sultanate of Women. Born in Ruthenia (then an eastern region of the Kingdom of Poland, now Rohatyn, Ukraine) to a Ruthenian Orthodox priest, Hurrem was captured by Crimean Tatars during a slave raid and eventually taken to Istanbul, the Ottoman capital. Lindsey Carmichael
Lindsey Ann Carmichael (born July 22, 1985 in San Antonio, Texas) is a Paralympic Bronze Medalist in archery. Early years She spent her first years in Uvalde, Texas, and then moved to Austin, Texas, Austin and then Lago Vista, Texas, where she attended middle and high school. Diagnosed at the age of 4 with McCune-Albright syndrome, she experienced a number of bone fractures (leg, hip, and arm) and surgeries to remedy the impact of the disease. This required her to use body casts, crutches and a wheelchair at various times. Her femurs and tibias were eventually rodded with steel and titanium rods. Archery career At the age of 13 while in middle school, a math teacher overheard her discussing with a friend the lack of PE (physical education) options for students in wheelchairs such as herself.
