Archery At The 1996 Summer Olympics – Women's Individual
The women's individual was an archery event held as part of the Archery at the 1996 Summer Olympics programme. Like other archery events at the Olympics, it featured the recurve discipline. All archery was done at a range of 70 metres. 64 archers competed. The same competition format as in 1992 was used, though there were some significant changes. The competition began with a 72-arrow ranking round (down from 144 arrows in 1992). This was followed by three elimination rounds (up from two in 1992), in which archers competed head-to-head in 18-arrow matches (up from 12 arrows in 1992). After these rounds, there were 8 archers left. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and medal matches (collectively termed the "finals round") were 12-arrow matches. Alison Williamson
Alison Jane Williamson Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 3 November 1971) is a retired British archery, archer who represented Great Britain at the Summer Olympics, Great Britain at six consecutive Olympic Games from 1992 to 2012. She won a bronze medal in the women's individual event at the 2004 Summer Olympics, becoming the first British woman to win an Olympic archery medal in ninety-six years. Williamson achieved two medals at the World Archery Championships and represented England at the Commonwealth Games, England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, winning two silver medals. Early life and education Born in Modesto, California, Langston first became interested in archery by watching her father participate in tournaments, and he gifted her a bow for her ninth birthday after recognizing her talent. She would practice archery in her back yard and would get pointers from her father and coach. Adrienne Cornelia "Janet" Dykman (born January 17, 1954) is an American archer. Dykman was born in Monterey Park, California. She was a member of four Olympic archery teams and an alternate on one Olympic team. Her Olympic appearances included 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. In four Pan-American games she won a gold medal as a member of the women's team. In 1991, she broke the 50-meter record and received a gold medal. In 1995, she was the National Field Archery Champion and also won the National Archery Target Championship. Currently, she still competes on the California state indoor and outdoor circuits and in Traditional National Archery Tournaments. Dykman represented the U.S. at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
