Arab Diaspora In Colombia
Arab Colombians refers to Arab immigrants and their descendants in the Republic of Colombia. Most of the Arab Middle Easterners came from Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine escaping from the repression of the Turkish Ottoman Empire and financial hardships. When they were first processed in the ports of Colombia, they were classified as Turks because what is modern day Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine was a territory of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. It is estimated that Colombia has a Lebanese population of 3.2 millions. Meanwhile the Palestine population is estimated between 100,000-120,000. Most of the Syrian-Lebanese established themselves in the Caribbean Region of Colombia in the towns of Maicao, Riohacha, Santa Marta, Lorica, Fundación, Aracataca, Ayapel, Calamar, Ciénaga, Cereté, Montería and Barranquilla near the basin of the Magdalena River. Christianity In Lebanon
Christianity in Lebanon has a long and continuous history. Biblical Scriptures purport that Peter and Paul evangelized the Phoenicians, whom they affiliated to the ancient patriarchate of Antioch. The spread of Christianity in Lebanon was very slow where paganism persisted especially in the mountaintop strongholds of Mount Lebanon. A 2015 study estimates some 2,500 Lebanese Christians have Muslim ancestry, whereas the majority of Lebanese Christians are direct descendants of the original early Christians. Fundación is a town and municipality of the Colombian Department of Magdalena. Its people are known as Fundanenses. The primary economic activity is livestock-raising, for production of both meat and milk. Other crops are: corn, yuca, oranges, bananas, beans, sesame, sorghum, rice, tomatoes, and tobacco. Girardot is a municipality and town of Colombia in the department of Cundinamarca. It is the second most important city of Cundinamarca according to its production. Cereté is a town and municipality located in the Córdoba Department, northern Colombia. Name origin Cereté comes from the two indigenous words meaning Chere (fish) and te (shelter). Ciénaga, Magdalena
Ciénaga () is a municipality and a town in the Magdalena Department, Colombia, the second largest population center in this department, after the city of Santa Marta.
