''Appletons' Journal'' was an American magazine of literature, science, and arts. Published by D. Appleton & Company and debuting on April 3, 1869, its first editor was Edward L. Youmans, followed by Robert Carter, Oliver Bell Bunce, and Charles Henry Jones. It was published weekly until June 26, 1876, then monthly from July 1876 until its final issue December 1881. Appletons' Cyclopædia Of American Biography
''Appletons' Cyclopædia of American Biography'' is a six-volume collection of biographies of notable people involved in the history of the New World. Published between 1887 and 1889, its unsigned articles were widely accepted as authoritative for several decades. Later the encyclopedia became notorious for including dozens of biographies of people who had never existed. In nearly all articles about the ''Cyclopædia'' various authors have erroneously spelled the title as 'Appleton's Cyclopædia of American Biography', placing the apostrophe in the wrong place. Overview The ''Cyclopædia'' included the names of over 20,000 native and adopted citizens of the United States, including living persons. Also included were the names of several thousand citizens of all the other countries of North and South America. The aim was to embrace all noteworthy persons of the New World. Appleton's Magazine
''Appleton's Magazine'' was an American magazine about books and literature. Founded by Seymour Eaton in 1903 as ''The Booklovers Magazine'', it was purchased by D. Appleton & Company in 1904. Its name was changed to ''Appleton's Booklovers Magazine'' and finally to ''Appleton's Magazine''. Publication ended in 1909. Its peak circulation was around 100,000 copies. D. Appleton & Company had previously published a similar journal of literature, science and art called ''Appletons' Journal'' (1869–1881).
