The Apostolic Nunciature to Serbia is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Serbia. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. On 3 June 2006, Serbia and Montenegro became independent nations, dissolving their short-lived federation, the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, the successor state to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. An apostolic nuncio ( la, nuntius apostolicus; also known as a papal nuncio or simply as a nuncio) is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization. A nuncio is appointed by and represents the Holy See, and is the head of the diplomatic mission, called an Apostolic Nunciature, which is the equivalent of an embassy. Eugenio Sbarbaro (born 3 July 1934) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Eugenio Sbarbaro was born on 3 July 1934 in Borzonasca, Province of Genoa. He was ordained a priest on June 11, 1960. He joined the diplomatic service in 1968 and his first assignments took him to Paraguay, Uganda, Turkey, and the United States. Orlando Antonini (born 15 October 1944) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1980 to 2015, as an archbishop and apostolic nuncio from 1999 to 2015. Luciano Suriani (born 11 January 1957) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who has serves as Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria from 2022. Biography Suriani was born in 1957 in Atessa, Chieti. He was ordained a priest on 5 August 1981. He was incardinated in the diocese of Chieti-Vasto. He earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. Biography Gangemi was born in Messina on 15 August 1961. He was ordained a priest on 28 June 1986 by Archbishop Ignazio Cannavò of Messina.
