The Apostolic Nunciature to Malta is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to Malta. The nunciature is located at 20/22, Pietru Caxaru Street, Tal-Virtù, Rabat RBT 2604, Malta. The current Apostolic Nuncio is Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-fai. The Apostolic Nunciature to Malta is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Malta, with the rank of an embassy. The nuncio serves both as the ambassador of the Holy See to the Republic of Malta and as delegate and point-of-contact between the Catholic hierarchy in Malta and the Pope. History The building of the Apostolic Nunciatur is found at Tal-Virtù in Rabat, Malta. The building’s final design was decided by Architect Joseph M. Spiteri. Luigi Gatti (born 25 November 1946) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who served as an Apostolic Nuncio from 1998 to 2011. Biography Luigi Gatti was born on 25 November 1946 in Castiglione Tinella, Province of Cuneo, Italy. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Alba on 29 June 1970. Since the fifth century, long before the founding of the Vatican City State in 1929, papal envoys (now known as nuncios) have represented the Holy See to foreign potentates. Additionally, papal representatives known not as nuncios but as apostolic delegates ensure contact between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in countries that do not have diplomatic relations with the Holy See. Alessandro D'Errico (born 18 November 1950) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church. He has spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See and has been the Apostolic Nuncio to Libya and to Malta from 2017 to 2022. Mario Roberto Cassari
Mario Roberto Cassari (27 August 1943 – 19 August 2017) was an Italian Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat. He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1977 and served as apostolic nuncio in several countries from the time he became an archbishop in 1999 until he retired in 2016.
