Apostolic Nunciature To Great Britain
The Apostolic Nunciature to Great Britain is a diplomatic office of the Holy See in Great Britain. It is headed by the Apostolic Nuncio who has the rank of an ambassador. The parties agreed to exchange representatives at the ambassadorial level and Pope John Paul II erected the Nunciature to Great Britain on 17 January 1982. Before then, the interests of the Holy See in Great Britain had been represented by an Apostolic Delegate since 1938, though not granted diplomatic status until 1979. The decision to designate the nuncio to ''Great Britain'' rather than ''the United Kingdom'' reflected the complex and frequently antagonistic relationship between the Holy See and the British crown since they severed ties in the sixteenth century. Wimbledon () is a district and town of Southwest London, England, southwest of the centre of London at Charing Cross; it is the main commercial centre of the London Borough of Merton. William Godfrey
William Godfrey (1889–1963) was an English Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Pablo Puente (priest)
Pablo Puente Buces (16 June 1931 – 4 December 2022) was a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church, who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1962 to 2004. He became an archbishop in 1980 and held the title of Apostolic Nuncio to several countries. ''Diario Sur'' called him "a heavyweight of Vatican diplomacy". Biography Pablo Puente was born in Colindres, Cantabria, Spain, on 16 June 1931. He earned his licentiates in philosophy in 1952 and in theology in 1956 at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid. He was ordained a priest on 2 April 1956. Luigi Barbarito
Luigi Barbarito (19 April 1922 – 12 March 2017) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church. He held the rank of archbishop while serving as a nuncio in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1969 to 1997. Bruno Heim
Bruno Bernard Heim (5 March 1911 – 18 March 2003) was the Vatican's first Apostolic Nuncio to Britain and was one of the most prominent armorists of twentieth century ecclesiastical heraldry. He published five books on heraldry and was responsible for designing the coats of arms of four popes. He was also Grand Prior of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George. The Apostolic Nunciature to Australia is an ecclesiastical office of the Roman Catholic Church in Australia. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio to Australia with the rank of an ambassador. The office of the nunciature is located in Manuka, Canberra. The mission was established as the Apostolic Delegation to Australasia by Pope Pius X on 15 April 1914 and given responsibility for Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Domenico Enrici (9 April 1909 – 3 December 1997) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Domenico Enrici was born on 9 April 1909 in Cervasca, Province of Cuneo, Italy. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Cuneo on 29 June 1933. Igino Eugenio Cardinale
Igino Eugenio Cardinale (14 October 1916 – 24 March 1983) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He held the title of archbishop and apostolic nuncio from 1963 until his death in 1983. Biography He was born on 14 October 1916 in Fondi in central Italy. His family had emigrated to the United States, but returned from Boston to Italy in 1918 and his father was serving in the Italian army as a cavalry officer when Igino was born.
