Anwar Khan (Guantanamo Detainee 948)
According to the United States Department of Defense, it held more than two hundred Afghan detainees in Guantanamo prior to May 15, 2006. They had been captured and classified as enemy combatants in warfare following the US and allies' invasion of Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban and disrupt terrorist networks. Originally, the US held such prisoners in sites in Afghanistan, but needed a facility to detain them where they could be interrogated. It opened the Guantanamo Bay detention camp on January 11, 2002, and transported the enemy combatants there. The United States Supreme Court's ruled in ''Rasul v. Bush'' (2004) that the detainees had the right of ''habeas corpus'' to challenge their detention under the US Constitution. That summer, the Department of Defense stopped transferring detained men to Guantanamo. On September 6, 2006, United States President George W. Anwar Ahmed Khan
Anwar Ahmed "Anu" Khan (24 September 1933 – 2 May 2014) was a Pakistani field hockey player who won one gold medal (in 1960 Summer Olympics at Rome) and two silver medals at the 1956–1964 Olympics, as well as gold medals at the Asian Games in 1958 and 1962. He is known as the Rock of Gibraltar. Early life and career Khan was born in India to His Highness Mohammad Hashim Khan and her Highness Noor Jehan begum, a fifth child among five brothers and one sister. He started playing hockey in India and continued after his family moved to Karachi, Pakistan, in 1950–51, becoming a national team member in 1954.
