Antiword
Antiword is a free software reader for proprietary Microsoft Word documents, and is available for most computer platforms. Antiword can convert the documents from Microsoft Word version 2, 6, 7, 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 to plain text, PostScript, PDF, and XML/DocBook (experimental). Overview The Word format is proprietary and only officially supported on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Reading the format on other systems can be difficult or impossible. Antiword was created to support reading this format on these systems. Wv (software)
The software library wv, also known as wvware or by its previous name mswordview, is a set of free software programs licensed under the GNU General Public License which can be used for viewing and/or converting files in the Microsoft .doc format to plain text, LaTeX, HTML or other formats. The wv library provides several tools on the command line of a Unix shell, such as ''wvText'' for converting a .doc file to a plain text file. It is used by the program abiword, which provides a GUI interface for reading .doc files. head is a program on Unix and Unix-like operating systems used to display the beginning of a text file or piped data. Syntax The command syntax is: head ptions<file_name> By default, head will print the first 10 lines of its input to the standard output. The number of lines printed may be changed with a command line option. grep is a command-line utility for searching plain-text data sets for lines that match a regular expression. Its name comes from the ed command ''g/re/p'' (''globally search for a regular expression and print matching lines''), which has the same effect. grep was originally developed for the Unix operating system, but later available for all Unix-like systems and some others such as OS-9. Diff
In computing, the utility diff is a data comparison tool that computes and displays the differences between the contents of files. Unlike edit distance notions used for other purposes, diff is line-oriented rather than character-oriented, but it is like Levenshtein distance in that it tries to determine the smallest set of deletions and insertions to create one file from the other. The utility displays the changes in one of several standard formats, such that both humans or computers can parse the changes, and use them for patching. Typically, ''diff'' is used to show the changes between two versions of the same file. Modern implementations also support binary files. DocBook is a semantic markup language for technical documentation. It was originally intended for writing technical documents related to computer hardware and software, but it can be used for any other sort of documentation.
