Anthem Of The Don Cossacks
Vskolykhnulsya, Vzvolnovalsya Pravoslavnyy Tikhiy Don (russian: Всколыхнулся, взволновался православный Тихий Дон) is a Russian patriotic song. It was the anthem of the Don Republic and currently the anthem of the Rostov Oblast, a federal subject of Russia. It was adopted in 1996. It was originally written by Fyodor Anisimov in 1853 during the beginning of the Crimean War. It is the symbol of the Don Cossacks Don Cossacks (russian: Донские казаки, Donskie kazaki) or Donians (russian: донцы, dontsy) are Cossacks who settled along the middle and lower Don. Historically, they lived within the former Don Cossack Host (russian: До ..., in which the anthem is also referred to as the Anthem of the Don Cossacks ( rus, Гимн донских казаков). Rostov Oblast ( rus, Росто́вская о́бласть, r=Rostovskaya oblast, p=rɐˈstofskəjə ˈobləsʲtʲ) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast), located in the Southern Federal District. The oblast has an area of and a population of 4,277,976 ( 2010 Census), making it the sixth most populous federal subject in Russia. Don Cossacks (russian: Донские казаки, Donskie kazaki) or Donians (russian: донцы, dontsy) are Cossacks who settled along the middle and lower Don. Historically, they lived within the former Don Cossack Host (russian: Донское казачье войско, translit=Donskoe kazache voysko, which was either an independent or an autonomous democratic republic in present-day Southern Russia and parts of the Donbas region, from the end of the 16th century until 1918.
