Antel Tower
Torre de las Telecomunicaciones ''(Telecommunications Tower)'' or Torre Joaquín Torres García ''(Joaquín Torres García Tower)'', usually referred as ''Antel Tower'', is a 157 meter tall building with 35 floors located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It hosts the headquarters of Uruguay's government-owned telecommunications company, ANTEL, and is the tallest skyscraper in the country. Designed by the Uruguayan-Canadian architect Carlos Ott, it is situated by the side of the Bay of Montevideo. The tower was completed by American Bridge and other design/built consortium team members in 2002. He became famous when he won his first prize in 1983 (among 744 architects from all over the world) for the construction of the Opéra Bastille in Paris, which was inaugurated on July 14, 1989 (bicentennial of the French Revolution). Joaquín Torres García (28 July 1874 – 8 August 1949) was a Uruguayan-Spanish artist who was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Torres-García emigrated to Catalunya, Spain as an adolescent, where he began his career as an artist in 1891. For the next three decades, Torres-García embraced the Catalan identity and led the cultural scene in Barcelona and Europe.
