''Annie du Far-West'' is a French operetta, adapted from '' Annie Get Your Gun'' by André Mouëzy-Éon and Albert Willemetz. It debuted at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on 19 February 1950. It starred Marcel Merkès and Lily Fayol and has been described as "a production that featured live elephants and that transformed Tamiris's Native American choreography into an African-American boogie-woogie". ''Annie Get Your Gun'' is a musical with lyrics and music by Irving Berlin and a book by Dorothy Fields and her brother Herbert Fields. The story is a fictionalized version of the life of Annie Oakley (1860–1926), a sharpshooter who starred in ''Buffalo Bill's Wild West'', and her romance with sharpshooter Frank E. Butler (1847–1926). The 1946 Broadway production was a hit, and the musical had long runs in both New York (1,147 performances) and London, spawning revivals, a 1950 film version and television versions. André Mouëzy-Éon
André Mouëzy-Éon (9 June 1880 – 23 October 1967) was a French dramatist, author of comedies, librettist, screenwriter and Dialogue, dialoguist. Biography André Mouëzy-Éon begins his career by writing short plays for the Théâtre de Cluny, located in the Latin Quarter, Paris, Latin quarter of Paris. After his conscription and before World War I, he became famous by going into the military vaudeville, a popular genre at the time with plays like ''Tire au flanc'', ''Le Tampon du capiston'', then ''Les Dégourdis de la 11e''. After the war, he collaborated with Nicolas Nancey on ''L'Héritier du bal Tabarin'' in 1919 and ''Il est cocu, le chef de gare'' in 1925. Albert Willemetz (14 February 1887 – 7 October 1964) was a French libretto, librettist. Career Albert Willemetz was a prolific lyricist. He invented a new type of musical, with a humorous and "sexy" style. The Théâtre du Châtelet () is a theatre and opera house, located in the place du Châtelet in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, France. One of two theatres (the other being the Théâtre de la Ville) built on the site of a ''châtelet'', a small castle or fortress, it was designed by Gabriel Davioud at the request of Baron Haussmann between 1860 and 1862. Originally named the Théâtre Impérial du Châtelet, it has undergone remodeling and name changes over the years. Currently it seats 2,500 people. Marcel Merkès
Marcel Merkès (7 July 1920 – 30 March 2007) was a French tenor operetta singer. Merkès was born in Bordeaux. After receiving several prizes in singing at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, he started at the age of 22 years at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux in the role of Des Grieux in ''Manon'', an opera by Jules Massenet. He often performed an operetta duo with his wife :fr:Paulette Merval, Paulette Merval, a singer and violinist, who he had met at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux. They totaled more than 10,500 performances and recorded many records in their careers. He was a prolific performer at the Théâtre Mogador in Paris. Lily Fayol
Lily Fayol (12 June 1914, Allevard, Isère, 15 May 1999, Saint-Raphaël, Var) was a French singer. The artistic career of Lily Fayol began shortly before World War II. Acquainted with talent manager Johnny Stark she had a series of hits from the 1940s including ''La Guitare à Chiquita'', ''Le gros Bill'', ''Le Régiment des mandolines'', ''Le Chapeau à plume'', ''Les Trois bandits de Napoli'', ''La Cane du Canada'', ''La Bouteille'', etc. In 1950 she was the star of the operetta '' Annie du Far-West'' alongside Marcel Merkès at the Théâtre du Châtelet. Lily Fayol also starred in several films including '' La Tournée des Grands-Ducs'' (1953) and ''La Gueule de l'autre'' (1979). She was married to cycling champion Maurice Roux, and became a hotelier with her husband after leaving showbusiness. She died in Saint-Raphaël, Var, on 15 May 1999.
