Boroughs And Districts Of Gothenburg
Gothenburg Municipality (''Göteborgs kommun''), Sweden is subdivided into 10 ''stadsdelsnämndsområden'' (roughly "city district committee areas"). The term is often translated to ''borough''. But they are really not boroughs, as they are not legal entities or juristic persons of their own, but organs of the central municipal administration. The members of the committees are appointed by the ''kommunfullmäktige'' (municipal assembly) and not by the electorates of the respective "boroughs". They therefore represent the political majority of the municipality ''as a whole''. Gothenburg previously had 20 boroughs, but after a decision in the municipal assembly in January 2010 some of the boroughs were merged, leaving a total of 10 boroughs. Landshövdingehus
Landshövdingehus () is a building type unique to the Swedish city of Gothenburg. Nineteenth-century city bylaws ruled that houses made of wood could be of maximum of two storeys high, in order to protect against fires. However, one building association tried to circumvent the rule and submitted drawings for a building with the ground storey built of brick and two upper storeys of wood. The city building council did not accept the application, but the county government overruled them and the ''landshövdingehus''—"governor house"—was born. The very first building of this kind was built 1875 in the city district of Annedal. It was demolished in the redevelopment of the 1970s, but many other examples of these buildings remain today. Bertil Envall (29 October 1909, Annedal, Gothenburg - 23 November 2011, Backa, Gothenburg) was a Swedish Lutheran missionary and bishop emeritus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malaysia. He was the son of a business manager, Gustaf Envall, and Bertha Svedberg. Early career After his ordination in Gothenburg in 1934, Envall served as a missionary of the Church of Sweden Mission in South India from 1937 to 1954. He then returned to Sweden and served as the vicar in the parish of Foss in Bohuslän.
