Anne Phillips (geologist)
__NOTOC__ Anne Phillips (1803–1862) was an English geologist. She is most notable for discovering a fragment of conglomerate that helped clarify the history of the Malvern Hills. She also worked as an assistant to her brother John Phillips who was also a geologist. Biography Anne Phillips was born in Midford, Somerset, in 1803 along with her two other siblings, John (1800-1874) and Jenkin (b. 1807). After the birth of her brother in 1800, the family moved to Midford and they are believed to have stayed at a property, Tucking Mill House, owned by her uncle William Smith. Smith was a geologist known for authoring the first geological map of England and developing the basis for the science of stratigraphy. The family moved to Steeple Aston, Oxfordshire after Anne was born in 1803. Then after four years, the youngest child of the family, Jenkin, was born in 1807. Anne Phillips (born 2 June 1950), is Graham Wallas Professor of Political Science, Professor of Political and Gender Theory at the London School of Economics (LSE), where she is based at the Department of Government. She was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2003. Profile Anne Phillips joined the LSE in 1999 as Professor of Gender Theory, and was Director of the Gender Institute until September 2004. She subsequently moved to a joint appointment between the Gender Institute and Government Department. She is a leading figure in feminist political theory, and writes on issues of democracy and representation, equality, multiculturalism, and difference. Much of her work can be read as challenging the narrowness of contemporary liberal theory. Anne Phillips is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She has worked with Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Mahalia Jackson and has arranged and produced jingles for the Four Tops and Martha and the Vandellas. Early life Phillips grew up in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. She played piano growing up but didn't hear jazz until she was a senior in high school. Phillips studied at Oberlin College where she sang with the school's big band and had a radio show. She then moved to New York at age 19 and played piano and clubs. Career Phillips started working in demo recordings for songwriters in the 1950s. She was a member of the Ray Charles Singers on the Perry Como Show. In 1959, she recorded her first pop album, ''Born to Be Blue,'' for Roulette Records. Phillips has worked as a singer, music arranger, conductor, writer, and producer for national commercials including Pepsi, Revlon, and Sheraton. Anne, Princess Royal (Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise; born 15 August 1950), is a member of the British royal family. She is the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and the only sister of King Charles III. Anne is 16th in the line of succession to the British throne and has been Princess Royal since 1987.
