Anna Fischer-Maraffa
Anna Fischer-Maraffa, born Miedke or Miedtke, (11 March 1806 – 19 October 1866) was a German operatic soprano. Life Born in Ansbach, Fisher was the daughter of the actor and singer couple Carl and Charlotte Miedke Charlotte Miedke, ''née'' Pfister (1781 in Mannheim – 27 October or 22 October 1806), also Miedtke, was a German singer and stage actress. Ansbach
Ansbach (; ; East Franconian: ''Anschba'') is a city in the German state of Bavaria. It is the capital of the administrative region of Middle Franconia. Ansbach is southwest of Nuremberg and north of Munich, on the river Fränkische Rezat, a tributary of the river Main. In 2020, its population was 41,681. Developed in the 8th century as a Benedictine monastery, it became the seat of the Hohenzollern family in 1331. In 1460, the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach lived here. The city has a castle known as Margrafen–Schloss, built between 1704 and 1738. It was not badly damaged during the World Wars and hence retains its original historical baroque sheen. Carl Gottfried Miedke, also Miedtke, (3 September 1773 – 4 January 1839), was a German actor, director and playwright. Life Miedke was born in Potsdam on 3 September 1773. His father was the ''Royal '' Gottfried Miedke at the court of Frederick the Great, the mother was Albertina Charlotta Kaebelizzen or Kaebelitz. Karl-Josef Kutsch, also known as K. J. Kutsch, (born 11 May 1924) is a German physician and co-author with Leo Riemens of the ''Großes Sängerlexikon'', the standard reference for opera singers. Life and work Born in Gangelt, Kutsch studied medicine, was drafted and participated as a soldier in the Russia campaign of the Second World War. He then completed his studies at the Goethe University Frankfurt in 1948. He practised as a physician from 1952 to 1989 in his hometown, together with his wife. From the 1950s, Kutsch built a collection of records and singers' biographies. Leo Riemens
Leonardus Antony Marinus Riemens (3 December 1910 – 3 April 1985) was a Dutch musicologist and cultural journalist. He wrote a book about Maria Callas, and together with Karl-Josef Kutsch began a reference book about opera singers in 1962, which grew to ''Großes Sängerlexikon'', the standard reference in the field. Background and career Born in Zevenbergen, Riemens grew up in a family of physicians in Amsterdam. He studied musicology in Amsterdam and worked from 1931 as a feature editor for the newspaper '. Later he was a member of the extreme-right NSB. During the Second World War he worked for the nazified ''Nederlandsche Omroep''. From 1954 to 1976 he was an opera and television critic for the newspaper ''De Telegraaf''. ''Großes Sängerlexikon'' (''Biographical Dictionary of Singers'', literally: Large singers' lexicon) is a single-field dictionary of singers in classical music, edited by Karl-Josef Kutsch and Leo Riemens and first published in 1987. The first edition was in two volumes and contained the biographies of nearly 7000 singers from the 1590s through the 1980s. It grew out of ''Unvergängliche Stimmen. Kleines Sängerlexikon'' (Immortal voices. Small singers' lexicon), published in 1962, which covered only singers who had made recordings.
