Gidget () is a fictional character created by author Frederick Kohner (based on his teenaged daughter, Kathy) in his 1957 novel, ''Gidget, the Little Girl with Big Ideas''. The novel follows the adventures of a teenaged girl and her surfing friends on the beach in Malibu. Peter Cooper Hewitt (May 5, 1861 – August 25, 1921) was an American electrical engineer and inventor, who invented the first mercury-vapor lamp in 1901. Hewitt was issued on September 17, 1901. In 1903, Hewitt created an improved version that possessed higher color qualities which eventually found widespread industrial use. Early life Hewitt was born in New York City, the son of New York City Mayor Abram Hewitt and the grandson of industrialist Peter Cooper. He was educated at the Stevens Institute of Technology and the Columbia University School of Mines. Career In 1901, Hewitt invented and patented a mercury-vapor lamp that was the forerunner of the fluorescent lamp. A gas-discharge lamp, Hewitt's invention used mercury vapor produced by passing current through liquid mercury. His first lamps had to be started by tilting the tube to make contact between the two electrodes and the liquid mercury; later he developed the inductive electrical ballast to start the tube. ...

Linda Ann Cooper is a New Zealand politician who has been a councillor on the Auckland Council since 2013. Political career Cooper served on the Waitakere Community Board for 4 years and Waitakere City Council for 2 terms. She has been an elected member on the Waitakere Licensing Trust since 2001 and the President since 2010. Rachel Cooper (April 20, 1954) is an American performing arts presenter specializing in cultural exchange. She is the Director of Global Performing Arts and Cultural Initiatives for the Asia Society. Before joining the Asia Society she headed the Festival of Indonesia which brought over 200 artists to 30 states in the United States. Along with I Wayan Suweca and Michael Tenzer, she co-founded Gamelan Sekar Jaya which was the first community-based Balinese gamelan in the United States. Career Cooper lived in Indonesia from 1983–88, teaching English while participating in performances at Taman Ismail Marzuki. In 1985 she helped organize Gamelan Sekar Jaya’s first tour to Indonesia. The group had been invited to perform at the Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar and would continue to perform in six other cities including Jogjakarta, in Central Java. Jane Ann Cooper Bennett (born 1960) is an Australian painter. Biography Born at Manly, New South Wales, Australia in 1960, Bennett's parents divorced before her birth. She was raised by her mother and grandparents in the family home at Seaforth and attended Mackellar Girls High School and Ku-ring-gai High School.
