Animal Planet is a television channel which launched locally in Australia exclusively on Optus Television in October 1999. The channel is dedicated to programming that highlights the relationship between humans and animals. It has since expanded to multiple carriers. It was added to Foxtel on 1 December 2003 in Australia and screen on Sky in New Zealand. It was formerly available on SelecTV from March 2007 until the closure of its English service in late 2010. It was available on Fetch TV until 1 February 2015. It would later be re-added to the platform on 1 May 2020. Programming Highlights *'' Crikey! 576i is a standard-definition television, standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for digitizing analog television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Three ( mi, Toru), stylized as +HR=E, is a New Zealand nationwide television channel. Launched on 26 November 1989 as TV3, it was New Zealand's first private broadcasting, privately owned television channel. The channel currently broadcasts nationally (with regional advertising targeting four markets) in digital free-to-air form via the state-owned Kordia on terrestrial and satellite. ''Extinct or Alive'' is an American wildlife documentary television programme produced for Animal Planet by Hot Snakes Media of New York City, the United States. Puppy Bowl
The ''Puppy Bowl'' is an annual television program on Animal Planet that mimics an American football game similar to the Super Bowl, using puppies. Shown each year on Super Bowl Sunday, the show consists of footage of a batch of puppies at play inside a model stadium, with commentary on their actions. The first ''Puppy Bowl'' was shown on February 6, 2005, opposite to Super Bowl XXXIX. The puppies featured in the ''Puppy Bowl'' are from shelters. The entire program is designed to raise awareness about adopting pets from shelters and rescuing abandoned animals. Production According to the show's producers, the inspiration for ''Puppy Bowl'' as Super Bowl counterprogramming came from the popular ''Yule Log'' Christmas program. Pit Bulls & Parolees is an American reality television series on Animal Planet. The series, which began in 2009, focuses on the Villalobos Rescue Center, a rescue for dogs, specifically pit bull dogs. The show's mission, stated in voiceover during the show's opening credits by founder Tia Maria Torres, is twofold: to combat misconceptions about pit bulls and other similar dogs (often referred to as "bully breeds"), and to provide employment and a stable transition for recent parolees who are trying to return to society. SelecTV was an Australian satellite based subscription television broadcasting service. As of January 2011, the service is no longer available. Services were carried on the Intelsat 8 satellite.
