The men's 4 × 100 metre medley relay event at the 1980 Summer Olympics was held in Moscow, Soviet Union on 24 July 1980 in the Olympiski Sports Complex. A total of 13 teams participated in the event. These were split over two heats held in the morning of that day, and the eight fastest teams qualified for the finals held in the evening of the same day. The United States, the winner of all previous editions of this event, was boycotting the games in response to the Soviet–Afghan War. As a result, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and Sweden were expected to win. Francisco José Ribeiro Lopes dos Santos, known mainly as Francisco Santos (born 17 May 1962 in Luanda, Angola) is an Angolan/Portuguese multi-talented artist. He is known by many names in various industries. As a swimmer, he uses the name, Francisco Lopes Santos. In visual arts, he is known as Xesko. In poetry, he used the name Elias Karipande. In fantasy and science fiction, Francisco used the name Alan J. Banta, whose works were published in English and Portuguese. As a sportsman, he represented Angola in swimming at the 1980 Summer Olympics (Men's 100 m Breaststroke and Men's 4 × 100 m Medley Relay). Nations had been limited to three swimmers each since the 1924 Games (except in 1960, when the limit was two). The event was won by Jörg Woithe of East Germany, the nation's first medal in the men's 100 metre freestyle. Sweden earned its first medals in the event since 1952 with Per Holmertz's silver and Per Johansson's bronze. Background This was the 18th appearance of the men's 100 metre freestyle. Jorge Lima (born 13 July 1967) is an Angolan swimmer. He competed in four events at the 1980 Summer Olympics. At the 1980 Summer Olympics, Lima was the youngest competitor of the games at the age of 13. He competed in the men's 100 m freestyle, 200 m freestyle, 100 m backstroke and the 4 x 100 m medley relay. He finished 8th in his 100 m freestyle heat with a time of 59.39 seconds, 8th in his 200 m freestyle with a time of 2:14.37 seconds and 6th in his 100 m backstroke heat with a time of 1:14.33 seconds. In his 4 x 100 m medley relay heat, he swam with Fernando Lopes, Francisco Santos and Marcos Daniel, Lima swam Angola's last 100 metres.
