Antonio Leonviola
Antonio Leonviola, sometimes Leon Viola (1913–1995), was an Italian screenwriter and film director and co-founder of the "Libera Università del Cinema di Roma". Life and career Leonviola was born in 1913 in Montagnana as Antonio Leone Viola. In 1934, he won a gold medal at the Venice Film Festival for his silent film ''Fiera di tipi'', which he shot at a fair in Padua. He worked as war photographer during World War II, an experience that he reflected in a few short films including ''La battaglia dell'Amba Alagi'' and ''La marcia degli eroi''. After the war, Leonviola worked as a screenwriter in a number of adventure films and in 1942 directed his first feature film, ''Rita da Cascia''. After a long break, he returned as director in 1951 with a crime film, ''The Temptress (1952 film), The Temptress'', which was celebrated by critics. Erminio Spalla
Erminio Spalla (7 July 1897 – 14 August 1971) was an Italian professional heavyweight Boxer (boxing), boxer, film actor and singer. Spalla studied fine arts in Brera (district of Milan), Brera, when in 1910 he saw film footage of the world boxing championships and decided to become a professional boxer. He was the first Italian to win a European boxing title, which he did in 1923. He lost it in 1926 to Paulino Uzcudun and retired from boxing the next year, though he briefly returned to the ring in 1934 and won all three of his final bouts. He returned to art after retiring from the ring. In October 1937 he debuted as an opera singer in ''Nel Trovatore'' in Turin. In the same year he also worked in sculpture and painting. Giacomo Matteo Furia (2 January 1925 – 5 June 2015) was an Italian film, television and stage actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1948 and 1998. Life and career Born in Arienzo, near Caserta, Furia started his acting career thanks to Eduardo De Filippo, he had met through an after-school summer job; he made his professional debut on stage in 1945, in De Filippo's "Napoli milionaria". He made his film debut three years later, in Mario Mattoli's '' Assunta Spina''; mainly cast in character roles, he was often a sidekick of Totò, notably landing a major role in ''The Band of Honest Men''.
