Angel Guts
is a six-film series of ''pink films'' produced between 1978 and 1994. The Nikkatsu, Nikkatsu Corporation was responsible for the production of the majority of the series. In accordance with the "pink film" genre, the prevalent theme in the series is sex, but violence is also featured prominently in the films. ''Angel Guts'' is based on the ''manga'' series written by Takashi Ishii (film director), Takashi Ishii. In a public comment on the ''Angel Guts'' series, director Noboru Tanaka pointed out the various directorial styles exhibited in the films: "...all five versions are different. Mine is very energetic and it looks like you could burn yourself if you touch it, whilst the others are calmer and gentler. I think the audience shouldn't be bored by this series of films." Pink Film
in its broadest sense includes almost any Japanese theatrical film that includes nudity (hence 'pink') or deals with sexual content. This encompasses everything from dramas to action thrillers and exploitation film features. The Western equivalent of pink films would essentially be erotic thrillers, e.g. ''Fatal Attraction'', '' Fifty Shades of Grey'', '' Basic Instinct'', ''9½ Weeks '', as well as the works of directors Russ Meyer and Andy Sidaris. Some writers use the term 'pink film' for Japanese sex movies produced and distributed by smaller independent studios such as OP Eiga, Shintōhō Eiga, Kokuei and Xces.
