Andrew James O'Brien (born 29 June 1979) is a former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Born England, he won 26 caps for Republic of Ireland between 2001 and 2006 and was a member of Ireland's 2002 World Cup squad. He retired from international duty in 2006. Club career Bradford City Born in Harrogate, England, O'Brien began his footballing career at St John Fisher Catholic High School, Harrogate, under the stewardship of his manager, Max Mills. He joined Leeds United's academy and played in the same youth side as Harry Kewell and Jonathan Woodgate, however O'Brien was released by Leeds at the age of 14. His talent as a defender was spotted by Bradford City and joined their junior ranks in 1994. He made his senior debut in October 1996 against Queens Park Rangers. Andrew William O'Brien (February 11, 1910April 19, 1987) was a Canadian sports journalist. O'Brien spent 42 years covering sports for the ''Montreal Standard'', the ''Montreal Star'', and ''Weekend Magazine'', during which he covered 12 Olympic Games, six Commonwealth Games, 45 Stanley Cups, and 31 Grey Cups. Early life O'Brien was born in Renfrew, Ontario, on February 11, 1910, to a major league hockey trainer father. When his family moved to Montreal for his father's job, he worked as a stick boy for the Montreal Maroons during their 1926 Stanley Cup run and the Montreal Maroons Professional Lacrosse Club. O'Brien attended Loyola College, where he played on the football and heavyweight boxing teams. Andy O'Brien (21 January 1915 – 4 December 2006) was a Fine Gael politician from County Cavan in Ireland. He was a senator from 1969 to 1982, and from 1983 to 1987. O'Brien was a teacher who served as principal of the national school in Crubany for more than 40 years. He was member of Cavan County Council and Cavan Urban District Council for over 40 years, and a leading organiser of Fine Gael in the county. He was first elected to the 12th Seanad in 1969, on the Agricultural Panel, and re-elected in 1973 on the Administrative Panel. Andrew O'Brien is the Special Representative for Global Partnerships in the U.S. Secretary of State's Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State. He was appointed to this position on May 20, 2013. Previously, O'Brien served as Secretary John Kerry's Massachusetts State Director in the United States Senate since 2007, reprising a role he had served in from 2003 to 2005. Andrew James O'Brien (1897–1969) was a New Zealand rugby footballer who represented New Zealand with the All Blacks and in New Zealand national rugby league team, rugby league. Rugby union career O'Brien began his career playing rugby union for Marlborough Rugby Union, Marlborough between 1919 and 1921. He also played for a combined Nelson Rugby Union, Nelson-Marlborough Rugby Union, Marlborough-Golden Bay-Motueka Rugby Union, Golden Bay-Motueka side against the 1921 South Africa national rugby union team, Springboks in the side's 26–3 defeat. In that game he lined up alongside fellow future dual-international Charles Fitzgerald (rugby), Charles Fitzgerald. In 1922, he moved north to Auckland, joining the Grafton club. He immediately was selected for the North Island side and subsequently the New Zealand national rugby union team, All Blacks tour of New Zealand and South Wales.
