Cardiac Arrest (TV Series)
''Cardiac Arrest'' was a British medical drama series made by World Productions for BBC1. It first broadcast between 1994 and 1996. The series was controversial owing to its cynical depiction of doctors, nurses, and the National Health Service (NHS), although it has often topped polls of the UK medical profession as the most realistic medical drama of all time. The series was created by Jed Mercurio (writing under the pseudonym John MacUre), a former junior doctor who had worked at a hospital in Wolverhampton. Mercurio drew on his experience to provide a more visceral, albeit wryly humorous, look at the NHS in the 1990s. At the time of airing, Mercurio was still working as a doctor. Mercurio later went on to create another controversial medical drama for the BBC in 2004, ''Bodies''. Cast Doctors * Andrew Lancel as Dr Andrew Collin * Helen Baxendale as Dr Claire Maitland * Ace Bhatti as Dr Rajesh Rajah * Jonathan Dow as Dr James Mortimer * Michael MacKenzie as Dr Graham Tur ...

Emma (1972 TV Serial)
''Emma'' was a six-part TV serial adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel '' Emma'' by BBC Television that was broadcast in 1972. It was directed by John Glenister. This dramatization brings to life the wit and humour of Jane Austen's arguably finest novel ''Emma'', recreating her most irritatingly endearing female character, of whom she wrote "no one but myself could like." Emma presides over the small provincial world of Highbury with enthusiasm, but she will find that it is all too easy to confuse good intentions with self-gratification. The often insensitive, well-meaning, incorrigible Emma Woodhouse having engineered the marriage of governess, companion and friend Miss Taylor, now turns her attention towards making a match for Mr Elton, the local vicar, and her new protégée Harriet Smith. Her one voice of reason and restraint is Mr Knightley, who has known her since she was a child and who watches her behaviour with wry amusement and sometimes with real anger. Cast an ...

Callan (TV Series)
''Callan'' is a British action-drama spy television series created by James Mitchell, first airing between 1967 and 1972. It starred Edward Woodward as David Callan, an agent of a state secret service dealing with internal security threats to the United Kingdom. Though portrayed as having responsibilities similar to those of the real-life MI5, Callan's fictional "Section" has ''carte blanche'' to use the most ruthless of methods. In the storylines interrogation is by means of torture, while extrajudicial killings are so routine they have a colour-coded filing system. With the possible exception of '' La Femme Nikita'', no TV series has ever presented a Western government agency in so sinister a light as ''Callan''. Despite being an assassin who stays in the socially isolating job because it is the only thing he is good at, Callan is a sympathetic character by comparison to his sadistic upper-class colleagues and implacable superiors. The downbeat cover for the Section's headqua ...
