Andrés De Tapia Motelchiuh
Don Andrés de Tapia Motelchiuh Huitznahuatlailótlac, also known as Motelchiuhtzin, was the ruler of Tenochtitlan (1525–1530). After the death of Don Juan Velázquez Tlacotzin in Nochixtlan in 1525, Hernán Cortés chose Don Andrés Motelchiuhtzin as the new ruler of Tenochtitlan. Motelchiuhtzin was not of the upper classes; he was born as a " macehualli" or working commoner, but he had gained renown as a warrior captain. He was captured together with Cuauhtémoc, and tortured along with him to reveal the location of the Aztecs' gold. Eventually he was freed and he returned to his lands. Because Tenochtitlan was in ruins, he stayed in Nochixtlan. In the three years of Cortés expeditions, he had been ruling Tenochtitlan as ''cuauhtlatoani''. He would not be tlatoani, but he would stayed as ''cuauhtlatoani'' two years more. During his rule, the Aztec titles and decorations were suppressed by the Spanish rulers. List Of Tenochtitlan Rulers
This is a list of Mesoamerican rulers of the ''altepetl'' of Tenochtitlan (modern Mexico City) from its foundation in 1325 until the end of the line of indigenous rulers. From c. 1375 onwards, the rulers of Tenochtitlan were monarchs and used the title ''tlatoani''. From 1427 to 1521, the ''tlatoque'' of Tenochtitlan were alongside those of the cities Tetzcoco and Tlacopan the leaders of the powerful Triple Alliance, commonly known as the Aztec Empire. Pablo Xochiquentzin
Don Pablo Xochiquentzin (died 1536) was a ruler of the Aztecs. Like his predecessor, Andrés de Tapia Motelchiuh, he was not of the upper class, so he was not designated a '' tlatoani'', but rather a ''cuauhtlatoani'' ("eagle ruler"; a non-dynastic interim ruler). Even so, he was considered a successor to the tlatoques, or rulers. Xochiquetzin was acquainted with Martín Ocelotl, a prominent Aztec who would be involved in a famous prosecution by the newly founded Inquisition of Mexico. Ocelotl was the main target of Bishop Juan de Zumárraga, but was spared until the death of Xochiquetzin. Xochiquetzin died in 1536 after ruling for five years. After his death the Spanish escalated their efforts to fight against paganism and the influence of the native upper classes. The ''Anales de Tlatelolco'' (''Annals of Tlatelolco'') is a codex manuscript written in Nahuatl, using Latin characters, by anonymous Aztec authors. The text has no pictorial content. Although there is an assertion that the text was a copy of one written in 1528 in Tlatelolco, only seven years after the fall of the Aztec Empire, James Lockhart argues that there is no evidence for this early date of composition, based on internal evidence of the text. However, he supports the contention that this is an authentic conquest account, arguing that it was composed about 20 years after the conquest in the 1540s, and contemporaneous with the Cuernavaca censuses. Juan Velázquez Tlacotzin
Juan Velázquez Tlacotzin was an Aztec leader in Tenochtitlan, during the final decades of the Aztec Empire. He then was the first post-Spanish conquest indigenous ruler of Tenochtitlan from 1525 to 1526. Biography Aztec era Tlacotzin was a Cihuacoatl (counselor) during the rule of Moctezuma II and of Cuauhtémoc. Spanish era Tlacotzin was captured and later tortured by Hernán Cortés, along with Cuauhtémoc, to reveal the location of Royal Treasures and gold of the Imperial Family. After the execution of Emperor Cuauhtémoc he was chosen as the Cuauhtemoc's successor by Hernán Cortés.
