André Marinus de Ruyter (born 1951) is a South African businessman and power executive. He has previously worked at Sasol and Nampak. In December 2019, he was appointed CEO of Eskom, South Africa's publicly owned electricity company. On 14 December 2022, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported that he had stepped down. Samson Gwede Mantashe, popularly known as Gwede Mantashe, (born 21 June 1955) is a South African politician and trade unionist, who as of 18 December 2017, serves as the National Chairperson of the African National Congress. He is also a former chairperson of the South African Communist Party and Secretary General of the ANC. On the 26th of February 2018, during a cabinet reshuffle by president Cyril Ramaphosa, Mantashe was appointed Minister of Mineral Resources. South African Energy Crisis
The South African energy crisis is an ongoing period of widespread national blackouts of electricity supply. It began in the later months of 2007 and continues to the present. The South African government-owned national power utility and primary power generator, Eskom, and various parliamentarians attributed these rolling-blackouts to insufficient generation capacity. According to Eskom and government officials, the solution requires the construction of additional power stations and generators.
