André Lamy
André Lamy (19 July 1932 – 2 May 2010) was a Canadian film producer, who served as Canada's Government Film Commissioner from 1975 until 1979. In this position he was the Chairman of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Lamy was born in Montreal, Quebec, and studied at two universities; the Université de Montréal and McGill University. During the 1960s he worked as a producer for the Montreal-based company Niagara Films, and then later with Onyx Films, a company which was owned by his brother, Pierre Lamy. In this period he worked on several important films, including Claude Fournier's '' Deux femmes en or''. Released in 1970, this held the record for the most profitable film made in Quebec for the following sixteen years. The October Crisis (french: Crise d'Octobre) refers to a chain of events that started in October 1970 when members of the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) kidnapped the provincial Labour Minister Pierre Laporte and British diplomat James Cross from his Montreal residence. These events saw the Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoking the ''War Measures Act'' for the first time in Canadian history during peacetime. The Premier of Quebec, Robert Bourassa, and the Mayor of Montreal, Jean Drapeau, supported Trudeau's invocation of the ''War Measures Act'', which limited civil liberties and granted the police far-reaching powers, allowing them to arrest and detain 497 people. The Government of Quebec also requested military aid to support the civil authorities, with Canadian Forces being deployed throughout Quebec. The history of Canada during World War II begins with the German invasion of Poland on 1 September 1939. While the Canadian Armed Forces were eventually active in nearly every theatre of war, most combat was centred in Italy, Northwestern Europe, and the North Atlantic. ''Sharky & George'' (Original name ''Sharky et Georges'') is a children's animated series, produced by animation studios CinéGroupe and Label 35 between 1990 and 1992. The series consisted of fifty-two 25 minute episodes, including two 12 minute editions which were sometimes aired separately. The series was later translated into English and shown in the United Kingdom on Channel 4 from 1991 to 1998.
