Andrew Ross (New South Wales Politician)
Andrew Hendry Ross (1 August 1829 – 29 January 1910) was a Scottish-born Australian politician. He was born in Muirkirk in Ayrshire to farmer David Ross and Mary Kerr. He attended local parish schools before studying medicine at the University of Glasgow. He was an assistant medical officer in London and then an assistant sanitary inspector. In 1857 he arrived in New South Wales as the medical officer on an immigrant ship, and established himself as a local doctor at Molong. During this time he was also District Registrar for births, deaths and marriages, coroner, and public vaccinator. He was an alderman from 1881 to 1882, and mayor in 1882. On 7 November 1881 he married Frances Ann Genn, with whom he had two children. Ross was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1880 as the member for Molong. Muirkirk
Muirkirk ( gd, Eaglais an t-Slèibh) is a small village in East Ayrshire, southwest Scotland. It is located on the north bank of the River Ayr, between Cumnock and Glenbuck on the A70. Conservation The Muirkirk & North Lowther Uplands Special Protection Area was set up to protect the populations of breeding hen harrier (Circus cyaneus), golden plover (Pluvialis apricaria), merlin (Falco columbarius), peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) and short-eared owl (Asio flammeus). Population The 2001 United Kingdom census recorded a population of 1,865. History The village developed around its church, which was built in 1631, and was a fertile recruiting ground for the Covenanter movement. Surry Hills is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Surry Hills is immediately south-east of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Sydney. The Liberal Reform Party was an Australian political party, active in New South Wales state politics between 1901 and 1916. It drew much of its support from Protestant and Temperance groups. History The question of tariff policy which, had created and divided the Free Trade Party and Protectionist Party in New South Wales in the 1890s, became a federal issue at the time of federation. Deprived of their main ideological difference, the two parties were recreated as the Liberal Reform Party, aligned with the federal Free Trade Party, and the Progressive Party, aligned with the federal Protectionist Party. The Progressive Party's vote collapsed at the 1904 election and many of its members then joined the Liberal Reform Party. Orange is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is a regional electorate that covers four local government areas in their entirety: the City of Orange, Cabonne Council, Parkes Shire and Forbes Shire. The seat has been held by Philip Donato since a by-election in November 2016. Donato was initially elected as a member of the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party but resigned in 2022 and became an Independent. History Orange was created in 1859. Ayrshire
Ayrshire ( gd, Siorrachd Inbhir Àir, ) is a historic county and registration county in south-west Scotland, located on the shores of the Firth of Clyde.
