Andrew, Bishop Of Veszprém
Andrew ( hu, András) was a Hungarian prelate in the 11th century, who served as Bishop of Veszprém sometime between 1062 and 1081. His life and activities are unknown, his name is only preserved by several settlement and geographical names throughout in the region on the north shore of Lake Balaton in the territory of the diocese. Presence in sources His name is not appeared in chronicles nor list of dignitaries of contemporary diplomas. A land register of the Bakonybél Abbey from 1086 mentions Andrew donated one of the estates ("''villa Andree episcopi''") to the monastery prior to that. Archaeologist Endre Tóth identified this village with Endréd (Endre is an old Hungarian name variant of Andrew or András), present-day an uninhabited borough of Magyarpolány. Additionally, Andrew donated a portion in Földvár to the abbey. The nearby Balatonendréd – an estate of the cathedral chapter of Veszprém – also preserved the bishop's name. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Veszprém ( hu, Veszprémi Főegyházmegye, la, Archidioecesis Veszprimiensis) is an archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary. Believed to have been established in 1009 AD by King Stephen I of Hungary, as the Diocese of Veszprém, the diocese was originally a suffragan to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Esztergom, Archdiocese of Esztergom. George, Bishop Of Veszprém
George ( hu, György) was a Hungarian prelate in the 11th century, who served as Bishop of Veszprém around 1061. Bishop of Veszprém George contributed to the foundation of Zselicszentjakab Abbey in 1061, when he already served as bishop. George formulated and drafted the establishing charter of the Benedictine monastery. Therefore, the prelate was granted a portion in the village Dorog in Somogy County with a vineyard and servants (present-day a borough of Patosfa) by ''ispán'' Otto Győr, the founder of Zselicszentjakab Abbey. According to historian Bernát Kumorovitz, George edited the establishing charter based on a diploma of foreign origin, where he included the intent of the founder regarding the portion in Dorog alongside the donations to the newly established monastery. Lake Balaton () is a freshwater lake in the Transdanubian region of Hungary. It is the largest lake in Central Europe, and one of the region's foremost tourist destinations. The Zala River provides the largest inflow of water to the lake, and the canalised Sió is the only outflow. Bakonybél Abbey
The Bakonybél Abbey is a Benedictine monastery established at Bakonybél in the Kingdom of Hungary in the first decades of the 11th century. Its patron is Saint Maurice. Foundation (c. 1018–1038) The establishment of the monastery is connected to the activities of a Thuringian nobleman, Gunther. He entered the Niederaltaich Abbey in order to do penance for his earlier sins, but later became a hermit in the woodlands along the borders between Bavaria and Bohemia. He was related to Gisela of Bavaria, the queen of King Stephen I of Hungary, and often visited them in Hungary. Gunther even lived as hermit in the forests of the Bakony Hills near a royal manor at Veszprém around 1018.
