Andrej Podkonický
Andrej Podkonický (born 9 May 1978) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Florida Panthers and the Washington Capitals. He is currently the senior coach of Avangard Omsk of the KHL. He previously coached HC Slovan Bratislava, of the Slovak Extraliga. Playing career Podkonický was born in Zvolen, Czechoslovakia. As a youth, he played in the 1992 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a team from Slovakia. He was drafted 196th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. After two seasons with the American Hockey League's Worcester IceCats, he was traded to the Florida Panthers for Eric Boguniecki on December 17, 2000. He played six games for the Panthers during the 2000–01 NHL season, scoring one goal. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament
The Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament (french: Tournoi international de hockey pee-wee de Québec) is an annual minor ice hockey event in Quebec City. The tournament was founded in 1960 to coincide with the Quebec Winter Carnival, and give an opportunity for international competition to players less than 12 years old. The tournament raises funds for the local Patro Roc-Amadour foundation, and is mostly run by volunteers and a few staff. The event takes place each year in February at Videotron Centre, and previously spent 56 seasons at Quebec Coliseum. As of 2018, the event has showcased the talent of over 1,200 future professionals in the National Hockey League or the World Hockey Association. The 2007 IIHF World Championship was held between 27 April and 13 May 2007 in Moscow, Russia. It was the 71st annual world championship event run by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Hockey Club Vityaz (, en, HC Knight) is a professional ice hockey team based in Podolsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia. They are members of the Bobrov Division of the Kontinental Hockey League. Portland Pirates
The Portland Pirates were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). Their home arena was the Cross Insurance Arena in downtown Portland, Maine. The franchise was previously known as the Baltimore Skipjacks from 1982 to 1993. The Pirates were affiliated with the Washington Capitals (1993–2005), the Anaheim Ducks (2005–2008), the Buffalo Sabres (2008–2011), Arizona Coyotes (2011–2015), and the Florida Panthers (2015–2016). The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called "PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga") (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a German professional ice hockey league and the highest division in German ice hockey. The SM-liiga (marketed as just Liiga from 2013 on), (Finnish for ''League'') colloquially called the Finnish Elite League in English or FM-ligan in Swedish, is the top professional ice hockey league in Finland. It is one of the six founding leagues of the Champions Hockey League and currently allocated five spots - the maximum number - based on success in previous editions. 2000–01 NHL Season
The 2000–01 NHL season was the 84th regular season of the National Hockey League. With the addition of the expansion Columbus Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild, 30 teams each played 82 games. Eric Boguniecki
Eric Boguniecki (born May 6, 1975) is an American former National Hockey League player. Playing career As a youth, Boguniecki played in the 1989 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Islanders minor ice hockey team. Drafted 193rd overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, Boguniecki's scoring ability in the minor leagues led to him being signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers in 1999. He played just 4 games for the Panthers before returning to St. Louis in a trade also involving Andrej Podkonický.
