''Amok'' is a 1996 mech-themed action video game for Windows and Sega Saturn. Players guide a robot called "Slambird" through nine different scenarios to complete several objectives. The game was noted for its use of voxel-based graphics for its environments rather than the polygonal models which were standard at the time of its release. Developed by Lemon, ''Amok'' began as a technology demo for the Sega 32X, but was reworked for the Saturn after Sega discontinued support for the 32X. Story Taking place on the planet Amok, a company war has been raging on for 47 years straight. However, upon the 47th year, a peace treaty was finally put into effect and both warring sides ceased fire. Unbeknownst to them is The Bureau, an underground collection of Arms Dealers who were benefiting from the constant weapon sales. Lemon (developer)
Lemon was a video game developer founded in 1994 by Søren Hannibal and Jacob Andersen, who had previously been members of a demoscene group of the same name. Lemon created the voxel-based 3D shooter '' Amok'', for Sega Saturn and PC. A PlayStation version was underway but was ultimately cancelled. Programmer Martin Pollas joined in 1996 to work on the PC version of ''Amok''. When Lemon's publisher, Scavenger, went bankrupt the team split up. Søren went to work for Shiny Entertainment (creating the Matrix games) while Jacob and Martin joined up with the remaining members of Zyrinx to form Reto-Moto ( ''Hitman'' series and '' Freedom Fighters'') in 1998. The 32X is an add-on for the Sega Genesis video game console. Codenamed "Project Mars", it was designed to expand the power of the Genesis and serve as a transitional console into the 32-bit era until the release of the Sega Saturn. The 32X uses its own ROM cartridges and has its own library of games.
