American Eagles Women's Basketball
American Eagles women's basketball team represents American University and plays its home games at Bender Arena in Washington D.C. It competes as part of the Patriot League in NCAA Division I. In 2015, it received its first ever bid in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament as a 14 seed after a 28–4 record and their first ever Patriot League tournament championship. They lost to #3 Iowa 75–67 in the First Round. 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2022 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 68 teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 40th edition of the tournament began on March 16, 2022, and concluded with the championship game on April 3 at Target Center in Minneapolis, where the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the UConn Huskies 64–49 to win their second NCAA title. For the first time, the tournament was expanded to 68 teams, expanding from the 64-team field used from 1994 through 2021 and matching the men's 68-team field in use since 2011. 2021–22 American Eagles Women's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 American Eagles women's basketball team represented the American University Eagles during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Eagles were led by ninth-year head coach Megan Gebbia and played their home games at Bender Arena as members of the Patriot League. They finished the season 23–9 overall and 13–5 in Patriot League play to finish in second place. As the second seed in the Patriot League Tournament they earned a bye into the Quarterfinals where they defeated Lafayette, Boston University, and Bucknell to win the title. 2019 Women's National Invitation Tournament
The 2019 Women's National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2019 Women's NCAA tournament. The tournament committee announced the 64-team field on March 18, following the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The tournament began on March 20, 2019, and concluded on April 6, 2019, with the championship game televised on the CBS Sports Network. In the championship game, Arizona defeated Northwestern 56–42 to win the tournament. Participants The 2019 Postseason WNIT field consists of 30 automatic invitations – one from each conference – and 34 at-large teams. Utah and LSU declined their respective automatic invitations. The 2018 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 16, 2018, and concluded with the national championship game on Sunday, April 1. The Final Four was played at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. This is the third time that the women's Final Four was played in Ohio after previously being held in Cincinnati in 1997 and Cleveland in 2007 and the first time that the women's Final Four was played in Columbus.
