Francis Walker (entomologist)
Francis Walker (31 July 1809 – 5 October 1874) was an English entomologist. He was born in Southgate, London, on 31 July 1809 and died at Wanstead, England on 5 October 1874. He was one of the most prolific authors in entomology, and stirred controversy during his later life as his publications resulted in a huge number of junior synonyms. However, his assiduous work on the collections of the British Museum had great significance. Between June 1848 and late 1873 Walker was contracted by John Edward Gray Director of the British Museum to catalogue their insects (except Coleoptera) that is Orthoptera, Neuroptera, Hemiptera, Diptera, Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera. ''Ambia obliquistriga'' is a moth in the family Crambidae. It is found in Papua New Guinea. The wingspan is about 12 mm. The forewings are white, clouded with more or less obsolete brownish smears. There are two dots on the basal part of the costa and one in the cell, as well as a spot at the apex of the cell and a streak on the outer part of vein 1. These spots are dark brown. There is also an oblique dark brown transverse line crosses the wing in the postdiscal area. The hindwings are white, clouded with brownish scales and with three dots in the basal part of the wing, as well as a line running in from the costa and a marginal row of dark brown dots.

''Ambia mesoscotalis'' is a moth in the family Crambidae. It is found in Indonesia, where it has been recorded from the Maluku Islands (Banda). The wingspan is about 12 mm. The base of the forewings is fuscous, with an obscure white subbasal line and an orange-yellow band on its outer edge. There is a medial orange-yellow line expanding outwards on the costal area, with a white discoidal lunule on it and some fuscous on its lower edge. There is also an orange-yellow band edged by a fuscous line curved round from the costa before the apex to the lower angle of the cell and emitting a streak on the costa. ''Ambia melanistis'' is a moth in the family Crambidae. It was described by George Hampson in 1917 and it is found in Taiwan. The wingspan is about 12 mm. The forewings are very dark red brown with a blackish tinge and with an antemedial white point on the costa and medial bar from the costa, there is also a slightly excurved punctiform white postmedial line from the costa to the discal fold, the line then almost obsolete and incurved below vein 4, with white points above and below vein 1. There is a metallic silvery patch before it between veins 3 and 1 and a small spot at the middle of the inner margin, as well as a curved punctiform white subterminal line. The forewings are black brown, suffused with greyish and tinged with yellowish in places.
