Amar (1954 Film)
''Amar'' () is a 1954 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film produced and directed by Mehboob Khan. Dealing with the controversial subject matter of rape, the film revolves around the titular upper-class lawyer (Dilip Kumar), his feminist fiancé, the social worker Anju Roy (Madhubala), and Sonia (Nimmi), a poor milkmaid. Plot Amarnath (Dilip Kumar), a well-known lawyer, is known for his sense of justice. One day, he meets Soniya (Nimmi), a milkwoman. She is awed by him and he finds her interesting. Amar's father wants him to get married and sends him Anju's (Madhubala) photograph. Anju has graduated from a foreign University and believes in justice and aiding the poor. Both she and Amar take a liking to each other and they are soon engaged. Khalid Mohamed
Khalid Mohamed is an Indian journalist, editor, film critic, screenwriter and film director. He formerly worked for the ''Hindustan Times'' and was the lead editor for ''Filmfare'' magazine. He is the son of Hindi film actress Zubeida Begum, on whose life he wrote the screenplay of Shyam Benegal's 2001 film, ''Zubeidaa''. An alumnus of Cathedral and John Connon School Fort (Mumbai precinct), Fort, Mumbai, Mohamed has directed four Hindi films. ''filmindia'' is an Indian monthly magazine covering Indian cinema and published in English language. Started by Baburao Patel in 1935, ''filmindia'' was the first English film periodical to be published from Bombay. The magazine was reportedly run "single-handedly" by Patel, who wielded power through this medium to "make or destroy a film". Its most popular column was "The Editor's Mail" answered by Patel. The magazine featured film news, editorials, studio round-ups, gossip, and reviews of different language films, mainly from Hindi and regional cinema and affiliated reviews from Hollywood. His articles included siding with the lesser known cinema workers like the technicians, extras and stuntmen. Patel met the painter S. M. Baburao Patel (1904–1982) was an Indian publisher and writer, associated with films and politics.
